New Years Eve dinner party recipes

Hi I have two friends coming for New Year’s Eve for dinner. Friend is an great cook and I’d like to return the favour.

What are your simple but impressive dishes?

Combined dislikes are fennel, beetroot and shellfish

Tagine with couscous and flatbreads
Prosciutto cheesy chicken
Individual salmon en croute

Small pastry cases, baked blind, fill them with chopped garlic mushrooms then carefully break a quails egg on top (don't break the yolk) and bake for a few minutes.

I think it's a Delia recipe. Different sizes look good as a starter or canapes.

I am doing a ham, dauphinois potatoes and veg. Super easy and always impressive.

Last New Year's Eve dinner party I did was
Smoked mackerel pate with proper homemade melba toast
Emu a la bourgignonne (guests loved this & asked what meat I used. To limit reactions I told them it was stewing meat), gratin potatoes & a green veg
Apple crumble & custard
All homemade
Mind you, where I live the traditional NYE meal is fondue.

Wow these all sound delicious.

But emu meat! Not sure I e seen that in Tesco. I’m assuming you live somewhere it is more accessible :)

I'm doing this for friends over the festive season. Have done it many times before and it's so easy but delicious.
