Cheesey potatoe bake

I have a real craving for cheesey potato bake. I remember my mum used to make it for us but we'd have probably had chicken or pork chops with it. I'm vegetarian now and completely uninspired on what I could serve it with. I could of course be a big pig and have just one huge serving but I'm trying to avoid that.

What would you have with it?

And I'm really annoyed that I've put potatoe rather than potato in the subject!

I do something similar - a potato gratin - and top it with hazelnuts. The nuts and the cheese is enough protein, and I serve it with leeks or cabbage.

I think it's fine as a meal on its own with any green veg.

BeverleyMacca1 · 11/12/2022 15:37

I’d have it just with green beans.

We do a proper old fashioned one -
sauce some leeks
make mash
mix a load of grated cheese plus the leeks into the mash
put into a baking dish and put more grated cheese on top
Bake

We have it with peas and HP sauce for a taste of childhood!

We had this with veggie sausages and baked beans the other day

I serve this as cheese and potato pie and stir a ton of lovely soft onions in, and serve with baked or green beans.

I serve mine with green beans too. Sometimes in garlic and butter, other times in a tomato sauce with Middle Eastern spices.

Mushrooms oven roasted with olive oil and garlic as accompaniment?

I made this today, perfect for a cold day and you could easily skip the ham!

If I was veggie I'd have veggie sausages and beans.

This is a brilliant suggestion.

Just veg or baked beans in this house but it’s also nice with a poached egg.

Raera · 11/12/2022 18:10

Put your other veg in the bake, like this one which we love. Any veg will work

Potato and cheese is all you need. Do not dilute the deliciousness!

Daffodilis · 11/12/2022 18:47

I made cheesy croquettes today

This sounds delicious and I could actually get veggie bacon to put through it.

It is lovely but you may need to double the cooking time, I did it in a big gratin dish today and it took about an hour.

AlexCabot · 11/12/2022 22:12

Ah, ignore me. I got my recipes mixed up!

kateandme · 11/12/2022 22:38
