What is your Food Heaven and Hell?

viggoswife · 31/01/2008 19:59

Food Heaven is freshy grilled seafood, preferably eaten overlooking the sea in Spain with a glass of white Rioja.

Food Hell is Bruised Fruit of any kind. It actually scares me and I think about it all day if I come across an especially disgusting bit that I may have nearly eaten.

Heaven - cadbury's chocolate, cold, preferably thin like easter egg chocolate

Hell - oysters - phlegm in a shell

dosydot · 31/01/2008 20:02

Heaven - roast lamb
Hell - Offal

Desiderata · 31/01/2008 20:04

Heaven - fried kidney (sorry dosydot).
Hell - Lychees. And I agree about bruised fruit .. and also the smell of a fruit bowl. It's disgusting

jaynehaterisnolongerworkshy · 31/01/2008 20:06

Heaven - lamb chops grilled to a burnt fattiness on the edges, and damn near raw in the middle

Hell - Lamb chops cooked for two hours in congealed Bisto. (Thanks, Greta, for that)

OverMyDeadBody · 31/01/2008 20:07

Heaven: good sushi

Hell: plain white bread sandwitches with nothing but marg and cheese or ham in them

Desiderata · 31/01/2008 20:09

Ah, Jayne!

Minum · 31/01/2008 20:12

Heaven : a really good home made chilli with all the trimmings

Hell: Chocolate Brownies

onebatmother · 31/01/2008 20:13

Heaven: enormous seafood plate, a few tables down from viggoswife OR my mother's bouillabaisse OR roast lamb OR char-grilled burger in Californian diner OR fish pie and peas.

Hell: Cottage cheese. How do you people eat that? It's off milk with lumps.

Fennel · 31/01/2008 20:15

Heaven is a huge range of vegetarian Indian food.

Hell is soft boiled egg with broad beans in parsley sauce (incidentally this is DP's food heaven, we are so mismatched) followed by cold banana custard.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 31/01/2008 20:18

I'm with Viggoswife.
Heaven is the big plate of seafood (but with more than one glass of wine)

Hell is fruit that is slightly overripe, slightly underripe, slightly bruised or slightly fibrous, or indeed anything other than perfectly ripe. I just don't trust fruit - it is always letting me down.

morningglory · 31/01/2008 20:22

Heaven: Dinner on beach of a private inlet on the Amalfi Coast. Freshly caught seafood cooked simply, a fresh pasta dish, then fresh fruit.

Hell: any meal at my MILs

viggoswife · 31/01/2008 20:24

Kathy you have perfectly summed up my attitude to fruit. I am a commited supermarket shopper when it comes to fruit. If I have to buy it all then I want it to conform to strict size and ripeness regulations. Supermarkets are like the first defence.

Heaven - a wonderful fish curry eaten on the beach in SE India, followed impossibly by Chocolate Marquise - several slices, and a glass of Vouray

Hell - rice pudding

JingleyJen · 31/01/2008 20:28

heaven - lightly cooked scallops in a little chilli oil
hell - semolina

yama · 31/01/2008 20:30

Heaven -oatcakes smeared with pate.

Hell- mushrooms (the smell alone makes me gag)

MakemineaGandT · 31/01/2008 20:30

Heaven - Sunday roast with the family - ok, not the most exciting meal (and there are plenty of other things I probably enjoy more) but I love sitting round the table together

Hell - anything cooked by my MIL. She is the worst cook ever. Think meat cooked until it is grey, solid and dry beyond belief, plus soggy veg boiled until they are sludgy and grey. All annointed with a thick floury greasy gravy made with LARD. Yes, really. For pudding, some revolting defrosted monstrosity from the supermarket tasting of sugar and grot.

cadelaide · 31/01/2008 20:31

heaven - lychees (sorry desi)
hell - anything involving undercooked eggs

Kathyis6incheshigh · 31/01/2008 20:31

I don't even trust supermarket fruit tbh! In fact it's worse because it's generally underripe when you buy it, so then you have to remember to eat it before it gets overripe, and it takes me long enough to psych myself up to eating fruit in the first place so I can never keep my courage up for long enough for the fruit to ripen.

Except for cherries- they are ok.

Merlin · 31/01/2008 20:32

Heaven - sprouts
Hell - sushi

fairylights · 31/01/2008 20:34

oooh where to start? heaven: I think wonderful fresh seafood eaten by the sea somewhere WARM, with a really decent salad that has loads of avacado in it..

hell: marmalade on or in anything, or grapefuit!

viggoswife · 31/01/2008 20:35

I also used to love cherries but even they had to be perfect and inspected minutely before I would eat them. Unfortunately though I have developed an allergy to some fruits because of hay fever - cherries, apples, plums etc so I cant even eat those now. Fruit really is my enemy.

suzycreamcheese · 31/01/2008 20:39

heaven...japanese: sushi tempura rice pickles miso soup... nori maki my day..

hell..summat from a box tv dinner, ready meal sludgefest gloop..

Sunshinemummy · 31/01/2008 20:40

Heaven: Oysters with shallot vinegar, followed by roast beef with all the trimmings.

Hell: Milk. Only thing I don't like.

cadelaide · 31/01/2008 22:23

What's all this weirdness about fruit?
Have none of you ever picked fruit from a tree/bush?
You're all mad.
