I'm looking for a Christmas Day starter, not too big, there's 6 adults, 1 is vegan 1 is lactose intolerant (but could have the vegan option) no fish please (fish allergy also!) and don't like pâté.......would prefer to make the day before and then serve or reheat and serve...any ideas 🤔

soup?

Rosio · 26/11/2022 19:56

Yeah soup is a thought. Also melon? With palma ham, or a fruit sauce drizzle for the vegan...that's a thing right? 🤔

Pear and walnut salad sprinkled with pomegranate seeds looks lovely and festive ( with blue cheese for non vegans perhaps.)

Melon is lovely

or shop bought garlic mushrooms with a little salad

Vegetable terrine served with a little smooth tomato sauce? Then everyone can have the same

I am not a fan of starters on Christmas day, makes finishing off the prep of the main meal a challenge and with your dietary needs, even more unappealing.

I would do 2 or 3 canapes with your aperitif instead, put out an hour or 2 before dinner and you can pop in and out sorting the veg etc at the same time.

Garlic mushrooms made with a little soy cream rather than real cream. Serve with thin slices of toasted French bread.

The same starter should be OK for the vegan, the allergies and everyone else.

You can pre make the garlic mushrooms and just give them a quick warm up in the microwave before serving. They'll actually taste better having been made and left to infuse the flavours.

Love the garlic mushroom idea! The vegan doesn't like mushrooms though 🤯 thanks for the ideas, canapés could be good but have never made canapés before so wouldn't have a clue what to make 🤔
