What would you have with Thai fishcakes?

So I got some posh fishcakes reduced earlier and have no idea what to have with them.
What would your ideal sides be?
I'm thinking a salad and a dressing or dip type thing but any ideas welcome.
I love spice so anything spicy would be good!

I was thinking a spicy Asian slaw or salad with finely shredded cabbage, carrot etc and a spicy dressing.

Ohhh definitely a cucumber salad. I love Gok Wans one

Some kind of spicy and crunchy salad and maybe some coriander dip.

ButteredJorts · 18/11/2022 17:34

All these all sound lovely. That cucumber salad looks great.
Looks like I might have to hit the supermarket tomorrow then as while I have all the basics I don't have sesame oil, rice vinegar or soy sauce! (I do have olive oil and cider vinegar but I don't think that will work!)

Maybe it's weird but I always have loads of broccoli with my Thai fish cakes. Plus a big blob of Heinz mayo!

TheTeenageYears · 19/11/2022 00:10

Either salad of just a whole load of steamed veg (broccoli, sugar snaps, baby corn, green beans)

AdaColeman · 19/11/2022 00:17

An Asian style stir fry would go well, peppers, spring onions, bean sprouts, leafy greens.

Or have them with a spicy dipping sauce as an apero with a glass of wine/sherry.

Sweet chilli sauce. And some other healthy stuff. But mainly sweet chilli sauce. 😋

MrsThimbles · 19/11/2022 00:37

Baked beans and homemade chips.

CallieQ · 19/11/2022 00:46

Thai salad

Don't go shopping to make up a meal for a reduced price item!

Rice and/or veg is fine. Just think about anything you have kicking around that can flavour the accompaniments along the lines of similar taste to your fishcakes eg chilli, lemon, garlic, lime, basil. Eg if you've got any green veg, cook it in chilli and garlic, put a bit of lemon juice on it (glaze it in the pan if frying), if it's root veg slice thinly and roast with chilli and garlic, for rice stir some chopped basil through once cooked or just add dried to the pot while cooking, bit of chilli sauce on it after, that sort of thing. For salad veg you can fuck around with strong and cool flavours when you dress them, again chilli and lemon, salt, plain yoghurt, if you've got any nuts fry them and then crush them. Plenty of pepper on whatever you're doing, that will go with the fishcakes. I bet you've got something in you can do something with. Even if you have ketchup, stir some chilli flakes and lemon juice into it, bit of salt, loosen and mix with a bit of boiled water, makes a chilli sauce of sorts.

Salad leaves and sweet chilli sauce.

Amen!

Ooh more answers thank you all!
Especially @DornChorus as I can't afford really to add more stuff to the shop list, but I did want to make it more treat like, so your suggestions are brilliant and very helpful.
I do indeed have plenty of chilli, herbs and spices and various other things, plus green veg, so that's Friday night dinner sorted without the extra cost!
Cheers!

Potato wedges with loads of paprika

Corn on the cob with a spicy butter

Sugar snap peas fried in a little bit of oil with loads of salt and pepper
