Hi, I am a little confused. today I read an article that said cooked chicken bones are dangerous for cats, but I don't understand, how?
When we cook something all the germs are washed away. right?

They can splinter into shards.

Fleur405 · 09/11/2022 18:26

They’re a choking risk!

PortiasBiscuit · 09/11/2022 18:26

Cooked bones aren’t good for anything really.

risk of choking on cooked bones

FatToFitPart3 · 09/11/2022 18:26

They become brittle with cooking, can splinter into sharp points and perforate throats/bowel etc.

I quite like chewing on them

Even if you pressure cook them until they are mushy, they contain microcrystals which can seriously block up the cat's intestines. Looked into this the other day, however you can make bone broth for cats which they may like.

I lost a cat to this. She swallowed the bone and it tore her stomach open. We tried surgery to save her but it failed. I never let my kitties near any bones now just in case.

Also.lost a childhood cat to this, it splintered and perforated her stomach

Hugasauras · 09/11/2022 18:31

Yes it's the splintering. Same with dogs. Raw bones are bendy and not brittle.
