What do you do with "luxury" preserved fruit in glass jars?

Like these?

I was tempted to buy one or two partly because I like the jars so much, but it's a steep price tag!

Is it worth the price and what do you do with them?!

I know I could Google recipes but I'm interested in what people actually do :)

Eat with ice cream and/or meringue

Margo34 · 05/11/2022 14:50

Eat them with cream, then stick the jar in the recycling.

The cherries are fab - I love them! I'll add them to the occasional cocktail, pop them on some ice cream or sometimes just have one on a cocktail stick in the middle of the day 😂

Rice pudding

I use them in cakes,
chop into muesli & yoghurt for an indulgent weekend brekkie,
serve with cheeseboard,
use them inside Baked Alaska,
or purée to line pastry flan cases with.
Or use the juice to soak into a sponge flan or make little pastry glazed tartlettes.
Or with melted chocolate.

Nice with ice cream too.

Lozza70 · 05/11/2022 17:49

Oh I love the cherries one. I make boozy cherry chocolate brownies!

falllakes · 05/11/2022 17:50

Ice cream or pavlova.

LolaSmiles · 05/11/2022 17:51

I have them with meringue nests and ice-cream for a pudding for a pudding

Depending on the fruit and what they're preserved with they work really well with meat.

Thanks for this OP - I was eyeing some jars myself today and have great ideas now 😊

I ate last year's pears in calvodos with ice-cream.

This year I'm on the look out for cherries too.

KangarooKenny · 05/11/2022 18:05

Meringues and cream.

Lie them in the bottom of a pan and cover with a vanilla batter. Bake until golden. Serve warm.
