What are the best veggie sausages and burgers?

Tried my first ever veggie saus at the weekend and it was actually very nice. But my friend said it was a cheap tesco own brand (apparently an expert)

So as I am almost veggie now, can you recommend some. Nothing too fancy has to be evaialble from normal supermarkets

mosschops30 · 28/01/2008 17:11

Linda Mccartney's on special offer in Sainsbury's at the mo' too...got my stocks in!

MotherFunker · 28/01/2008 17:13

I like the Cauldron ones.

mufti · 28/01/2008 17:13

i like the quorn bangers, and cauldron

tesco own burgers are nice, mushroom ones and cheese and spring onion
caqludron also do a lovely burger, wensleydale and mushroom, although quite pricey at £1.99 for 2

imaginewittynamehere · 28/01/2008 17:14

yes does both. burgers nice too - half price in Tesco at the moment too.

Plus they have recently taken the annoying picture of LM off the packaging which makes buying them a nicer experience Nothing against LM but it just felt wrong to be seing her face on frozen goods!!

mistlethrush · 28/01/2008 17:16

I like cauldron and Wicken Fen. I avoid LM as don't want veggie sausages to have 'chicken flavouring' or similar - I want them to taste nice in their own right.

mosschops30 · 28/01/2008 17:24

great will have a look at all of these when I go shopping thanks

Sainsburys glamorgan (or something that reads like that lol) cheese and leek sausages are FANTASTIC freezer aisle, under 2 quid for 6. Sex on a plate

bellabelly · 28/01/2008 17:28

I used to LOVE veggie hotdog sausages - think they were called "Tival" (haven't been vegetarian for ages...) and they were frozen and you just boil them in water for 3 mins and put them in hotdog bun - YUM!

bellabelly · 28/01/2008 17:29

YUM

bellabelly · 28/01/2008 17:30

Have made myself want one now...

charliecat · 28/01/2008 17:31

I have those in the freezer I love them with sauce and fried onion

sfxmum · 28/01/2008 17:32

Tesco have been licensed to do the Tivall range so their frankfurters taste the same and have the Tivall logo at the back

waitrose do nice ones and I like most of the Cauldron range
I know there was another I can quite recall making really nice ones from chiller cabinet

sfxmum · 28/01/2008 17:33

wicken fen as per previous post - sorry

Another vote for Sainsbury's Glamorgan sausages.

The others, particularly WIcken Fen, are far too salty imo.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/01/2008 17:40

Cauldron are great, or you could make your own burgers, they are pretty easy.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/01/2008 17:42

But you can't beat good falafels

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 28/01/2008 17:47

linda mcartney - yeuch
quorn nice but rubbery
cauldren lincolnshire - yum
cauldren cumberland - phew waaay to heavy on the pepper
sosmix - nice for a change
good life - remeniscent of beig a veggie 20 years ago so still love them

sfxmum · 28/01/2008 17:49

burgers I make my own - lovely bean burgers etc assorted recipes easy to do

janeite · 28/01/2008 19:18

Linda M - eugh

Sosmix - not for sausages but I make seriously retro sausage rolls occasionally with it (Greggs eat yer heart out!!)

Quorn - I quite like the frozen ones, especially the pork and leek flavoured ones; good with mash and loads of roasted onions

Cauldron - I like these but dd doesn't

I don't really buy veggie burgers but dd likes mexican beanburgers - However, now that I no longer shop at Tesco, these are harder to track down. I keep meaning to make some myself but am yet to get around to it.

BearMama · 01/02/2008 00:15

Ooh yes Tivall are fantastic (drool)
I like Quorn Cumberland sausages and found Quorn burgers are the best too.
The trick is to cook them properly and have them with all the trimmings - onions, sauce/mustard/bun etc.

shouldbedoingthewashingup · 01/02/2008 20:46

I am practically addicted to the Tivall ones (which Sainsbury's sells as 'meat-free hotdogs) and I am not even veggie - they must be very very wrong, but I like them!

Millarkie · 01/02/2008 20:55

Cauldron lincolnshire are our fav, but tesco own brand taste very similar.
Cauldron cumberland are too peppery for the kids taste.
Don't like Linda McC as they are too 'meaty'
And we love the 'hot dog' style ones from Tesco.
