Roasts are just my all time comfort food. I only make them in the colder months and I really fancied one tonight.

Everything made from scratch.
Tonight we had:
Roast chicken
Cauli and broccoli cheese
Homemade yorkies and roast spuds
Peas, carrots, sweet corn and green beans
DH and DD had pigs in blankets (I only eat chicken and fish)
All slathered in gravy.

No stuffing tonight but we usually do.
I follow a Twitter page where everybody submits their dinners that eve for fun and I love it! Post your dinners or if you have any pics of your roast dinners in the past please post them - I love looking for inspo.

It took me 2 hours in total and I'm so proud of myself. I'm 28 years old and I have just come home from a 3 week in intensive care due to heart problems and surgery and I was craving a comfort food.

PS - missing some veg due to not having a chance to go to the shops yet. I've only been home for 3 days so used what we had in stock.

And I haaaaaate parsnips. You will never see them in my plate they are the food of the devil!

Chestnuts and Brussels on the other hand are to die for. Didn't have any in :(

I've never made a nut roast but I'm hosting this year and we have 2 veggies coming so I'm making one, I've never tried it.
Any tips let me know, roasts are the absolute best. Yours looks delicious!

Seems that way!

I had bubble and squeak today for breakfast and lunch Grin

What's on the menu tonight for you?

Well we’ve had a little Halloween party for my son and his friends today (3.5) so I’ve been snacking on sandwich and cupcakes so need something substantial tonight, so having a huge Indian with ALL the bits 😍
what about you?
and this nut roast recipe is delicious www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/vegan_nut_loaf_99997

I'd join in but I don't have photos of my roasts! I'm a vegetarian so usually do roast potatoes, roast carrots, yorkshires and broccoli cheese. You might want to check if your veggie guests eat nut roasts. I'd rather have extra potatoes or brocolli cheese so all that effort would be wasted on me.

Yep all checked and good to go.

So this year I'll do a roast chicken (I prefer it to turkey) and a nut roast. I'll probably do a trial run before hand.

I'm going to attempt a boozy Christmas cake tomorrow too! This is my first year hosting so hopefully it'll all go well but if it goes up the wall I'm sure there will be a petrol station open somewhere with some ready meals Grin

Petrol station was a life saver last Christmas when we needed paracetamol!

For dinner tonight I won't say the word as it makes peoples teeth itch

But it rhymes with ticky tea - veggie samosas prawn toast some sushi and dips. Yummmm!

So tell me - is nut roast hard to make?

I love a picky tea and am not scared to say the words Grin

I don't think a nut roast is difficult but it's just extra work on top of the other bits you'd be doing. You can make them a day or two in advance to save stress. Assuming you're doing yorkshires, just stick it in when they go in to heat it through.

Last week's Sunday dinner, stuffed pork loin (stuffing homemade from our garden herbs), carrots, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, mashed and rosemary roast potatoes, with the most amazing rich gravy. I'm so happy sprout season is nearly here!!!!

This thread is gold!
im sorry I have no photos on this phone.but we are Deff a roast family.
it is one of the best memory sets.from home, grandparents. Oh ok any great memory usually has a meal plonked in the middle of it😃
when we were kids we used to have a roast every weekend.
my gc always made the best and are famed throughout the family and we all have no idea how they do it.
love Brussels. And parsnips.
we don’t do the whole pimping up the veg really(mixing with honey or herbs or bacon I keep seeing) we just love good old plain veg.
leftovers in cheap white bread.
bubble and squeak yes please.
you look like a cook op but have you thought of buying a nut roast.I’ve seen lots in stock now.I’m not sure how good they are from supermarkets but might be worth a look and there is often reviews.
my sister had such a disaster making one one year she gave up and rushed to store and got boxes of nut cutlets! Which she proceeded to stack in the shape of a 3d Christmas tree ha.

Dustyblue · 01/11/2022 08:19

That's it, I must a proper roast dinner this week. Am literally salivating.

There are some very full plates here, can't you just go back for seconds? I'd be tucking in so enthusiastically I'd be spilling stuff over the sides😂

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 01/11/2022 08:43

FFS its not even 9am and I am craving a roast dinner now...

MyCatTibby · 01/11/2022 15:44

babydoco · 02/11/2022 15:05

I'm going to buy a nut roast from M&S they look a bit complicated - interested to try though!

I'm also craving another roast. I've got a silverside so I'm going to do that tomorrow with mash and greens as I'm working late and won't have time to do it all.

Roasts are gold. Actual gold. Food of the gods.

What about puds, what are your fave desserts after a roast?
Mine is absolutely rhubarb crumble (crumble ratio has to be at least 70%) with custard.

Mmmmmhhhh
