Simple but nice dessert / cake using culinary pears?

I've got loads & could do with some new things to do with them. I like the poach-whole-wrap-in-puff-pastry thing, but don't really have any other go-to desserts. (Young tree, it's the first year it's made lots of fruit.)

Specifically right now I need a pudding to take to friends' tomorrow, so anything cake-y or otherwise good to eat cold would be very welcome :)

I've made something like this

a couple of times, it goes down well.

Pear and almond cake or tart are lovely.
Puff pastry crème pate and pear glazed with apricot
jelly
chutney
crumble
juice

Just to add -- turn the sound down , it's awful and not necessary at all. Sorry!

Sadik · 27/10/2022 19:17

Not at chutney or jelly quantities yet, but making a note of all of these. I was thinking pear & marzipan might be good somehow too

Well I’m of the “anything with marzipan” is Devine camp so you’ve got me there. I’d add walnut too.

Pear Tarte Tatin, crumble, pears poached in wine with cinnamon, poire belle Helene.

Mmmmm tarte tatin….

Sadik · 27/10/2022 19:20

Hmm I wonder if I could make a pear tarte tatin with marzipan.

I chop up pears (well one pear) small and make chocolate mug cakes in the microwave. Perhaps not for taking to a friends though.

A friend brought this Jamie Oliver dessert to a dinner party once and it was unreal: Recipe

Just saw this on one of the cooking shows this weekend. Pears & marzipan

Sadik · 27/10/2022 19:33

Oh, those individual pear/marzipan crumbles look good.

I think friedin butter and icing sugar and flambé with a pear brandy and vanilla ice cream would be yum.

Nigella’s pear and chocolate pudding. 🤤

SiobhanSharpe · 28/10/2022 00:07

I have been known to cut up half a white marzipan block into 1/2 inch cubes and add them to a fruit cake mix before baking.. they go beautifully squishy.

Pear and ginger crumble 😋

AdaColeman · 28/10/2022 02:11

Pears poached in spiced red wine is easy and always popular, serve cold.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/10/2022 10:51

There was a pear in frangipane tart I made from the first River Cafe cookbook that was mind-blowingly delicious but took all bloody day to make. However it's far from the only recipe around. I've never made another as I'm a bit scarred from the process.
