BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/10/2022 13:48

Do I cook it now and reheat tomorrow, or leave it raw and cook it tomorrow?

Make the crumble topping now and put in fridge.

And do the base tomorrow, fresh. Isn't just apple? I'd never pre-cook that anyway.

Personally I'd leave raw and cook tomorrow. If you do that, leave the crumble topping off until you put it in the oven so it doesn't go soggy.

Cook tomorrow
Prep today, but keep crumble separately and put on top when ready to bake,

BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/10/2022 13:52

Aaargh! Already put the crumble on. Maybe I should cook now then?

Depends what else is going on tomorrow tbh

I wouldn’t cook it all together today or the crumble will go soggy but maybe part-stew the apples today and put them in the dish. Mix up the crumble topping and then tomorrow you can put it together and bake. Or as I do, bake the crumble separately and put it together at the last minute - as you can tell I hate soggy crumble! And FGS put the custard/cream/ice cream on the side, not on top!

MissyB1 · 22/10/2022 13:52

You could as pp said make the topping today and bake the whole thing tomorrow. You could also bake today and heat up tomorrow. Or just leave the whole thing till tomorrow.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/10/2022 13:53

I'd already made it before it dawned on me that I wasn't going to be eating it today!

Oh no! Too late. Well in that case you’d better cook it today and then maybe scruffle it up a bit tomorrow to put some of the underneath crumble on top for reheating?

Happycroc · 22/10/2022 13:55

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/best-apple-crumble

best quick easy crumble. Make the topping tonight (I add a handful of oats in mine) and peel/ chop the apples tomorrow!

easy and delicious!

Happycroc · 22/10/2022 13:56

Oh whoops! Eat it and make another tomorrow!!

Clymene · 22/10/2022 13:59

You're going to have to cook it now I'm afraid. But you can warm it through tomorrow on a lower oven. Put foil over the top to stop it burning

Quitelikeacatslife · 22/10/2022 14:01

Cook it now or fruit might brown but do it a bit under so can pop in oven to heat through tomorrow

BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/10/2022 14:13

Thanks for all your advice. I've actually got a bit of crumble spare, so will cook that tomorrow and sprinkle over the reheated pudding in the hope it will keep it crunchy.

Will post an update Smile

You could send it to me as we are having apple and blackberry crumble today but I haven't yet made it because I can't be arsed.

I could then make my crumble tomorrow and give it to you. Grin

...eyes a bowl of plums on the table which are resolutely refusing to ripen...

Thanks for starting the thread OP, I shall make crumble with them instead.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 22/10/2022 14:33

I'm in the minority it seems but in my opinion crumble is always better the day after it's cooked when the crumble has soaked up a load of the fruit juice.

Cook it today, if you are a fan of a really crisp crumble then just make up a small amount of extra crumble mix and add some more when you reheat it tomorrow.
