Dirty eggs

What's the best way to clean dirty eggs?
I'm not squeamish about a bit of shit, but should I wash them, wipe with a damp cloth, or just crack them & wash my hands afterwards?

I'd wash the egg so you don't end up with poop in your food.

I wipe mine with a bit of damp kitchen towel.

Only wipe just before using. If you wash them you could remove protective layer that stops germs getting inside the egg.

I rinse mine under the tap and gently rub it off. Ideally at an outdoor tap as chicken poo is awful.

Wipe over just before using. Obviously if they have big lumps of poop innthem you’d take that off before storing but they will last longer if you don’t wash them before storing

Don't wipe them till you actually want to use them.

They have a coating on the shell called the bloom which helps to preserve the contents and stop air permeating the shell.

Thanks everyone.
My DGPs kept chickens; I loved collecting the eggs but had no further input until I ate them !
