Recipes to use up celery

If you had a bunch of celery in your fridge to use up but you didn't want to make celery soup, crudités, roast celery etc, what would you put it in?

I bought a bunch to use some in a chicken casserole and don't want the rest to go to waste. It needs to be 'hidden' somehow though, and not the star of the show because DH and DCs don't like celery...
They eat it when they don't realise its there though Grin

Anything in the slow cooker, it soaks up the taste and doesn't take too celeryish.

Gazelda · 21/10/2022 11:53

I chop it up and bung in the freezer for another day when I need something to pad out a bolognese or soup.

namechange3394 · 21/10/2022 11:54

I put it in bolognese and chilli as a bit of extra veg

Yeah. Chop it up very small and use it in sauces etc.

I didn't even think about freezing!
I think I will do a bolognese tomorrow and then freeze the rest.
Thank you

Whenever you use chopped onion, add a bit of celery too. I'm not a fan of it by itself but it adds a good flavour to almost anything - casseroles, bolognese etc.
However I now have 2 heads a celery to use so am following this thread for ideas myself!
Soup maybe?

Fingernails4Cash · 21/10/2022 12:00

Chop it up fine and add it along with (or instead of) the onions and garlic at the start of any dish

borogovia · 21/10/2022 12:00

Make batches of sofritto and freeze for when you are making a stew.

Pattygonia · 21/10/2022 12:01

YY to freezing - and if you have carrot and onion lying around, dice that too and freeze them together then you've got a great base for pretty much any cooking to hand

Chicken and leek gratin. Delicious as a side and it’s the perfect time of year for it!

I can’t remember where I got my recipe from as I just make it up/do it by eye now, but I’m sure there’ll be loads if you search. The one I do uses stock, cream and cheese. I sometimes do just leek and celery, other times I put a mix of whatever green veg I want to use up.

NiqueNique · 21/10/2022 12:05

Not chicken and leek (although that would obviously be delicious too)!!

Celery and leek gratin.

NiqueNique · 21/10/2022 12:07

D’oh, I should have read the full OP! Got excited to share one of my favourite use-up recipes...

Never mind. Make the gratin anyway and have it all to yourself! Wink

In bolognaise or chilli
in a tomato and lentil stew
celery adds the best flavours to any dish

notangelinajolie · 22/10/2022 00:15

Lasagne
Or freeze it

AlwaysLatte · 22/10/2022 00:15

My kids like it in their school lunchbox or with peanut butter on it.

kateandme · 22/10/2022 00:17

In a pilaf
gratin
barley or grain salad
sausage pasta

Discovereads · 22/10/2022 00:22

I just slather it in peanut butter and eat it raw.
