Have I cracked the mumsnet chicken?

Or did I cheat?
Full disclosure, I started off with 2 chickens, but the 1st meal fed 7 adults and 1 toddler.
1st meal - roast whole chicken + trimmings
2nd meal - leftovers chicken leek and mushrom pie, topped with sliced roast potatoes - didnt finish this - i reckon theres 1 stingy portion left if its eaten with something else - served 2 adults and 1 toddler
3rd meal - simmered down the bones and skin after stripping the meat off it. Added in gravy and fresh blanched veg and stripped meat to make enough chicken soup for at least 2 meals for 2 adults and 1 toddler. Especially if served with bread.
Is 2 chickens cheating if I served 8 in the original meal, or have I recreated the mythical mumsnet chicken?

One chicken fed 7 adults and a toddler? Is that a turkey masquerading as a chicken?

🤔😱

TerfranosaurusVagina · 14/10/2022 19:41

No no that 1st meal was 2 chickens. Fed on corn, not steroids 😂

The other meals were created from the leftovers of those 1st 2 chickens.

One chicken fed 7 adults and a toddler - Christ, were they all Sylvanian Family members?

HairyMothballs · 14/10/2022 19:43

Or did everyone get a 1 inch piece each?

TerfranosaurusVagina · 14/10/2022 19:48

1st meal - 2 x roast whole chicken + trimmings
Other meals are made from leftovers.

How many did the original mumsnet chicken feed? I want to know if mine is comparable!

So counting your toddler as 1/2 a person each portion and including the pie scrapings as a portion that’s 16 portions per 2 chickens, ie 8 portions a chicken.

I don’t think it’s as good as the mythical mumsnet chicken but has all the right components - a roast, a separate meal and stock/soup making. It’s got to be at least a B+ ?

I was going to make soup from.the chicken bones and my dd started to chomp on the stripped bones. Boom! Beat that!
Roast, sandwiches, soup, serving of bones.

Everyone was stuffed to ( possibly just starving if bones looked appealing) I had to abandon the soup idea as they had all been her mouth ....

I can but hope 😅I reckon I could get another pie out of it if I tried. The soup is still in the making and theres a decent amount of scraps left... I've got some home grown squash and could add chorizo and beans to bulk it out 😂

Haha argh! Marrow is very good for you. As long as you don't swallow a bone sliver.

But you would have boiled them. Full disclosure, I would have gone right ahead.

I don't think any normal human can achieve a true Mumsnet chicken but that was an excellent effort. 😂

Mumrey · 14/10/2022 21:31

Crikey! Me and hubby can finish off a small chicken in one meal....

SalviaOfficinalis · 14/10/2022 21:31

Can we have a diagram of how the chicken was portioned up please?

Agh no not yet. Do you think she'd appreciate the skin? 😂

What do you think? Will this stretch to a mythical 4th meal?

Good effort OP. I always think it's odd when people say that a chicken can't make several meals. We do similar. A large chicken (so 2.2-2.4kg) will do a roast, soup x 2 meals with crusty bread, plus two of chicken risotto/ chicken chow mein/ chicken fried rice, for three people. And not stingy portions at all. I wonder if people who think it won't stretch are eating huge portions of meat and nowhere near enough vegetables. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Love the diagrams, and intrigued by your second meal! Did you assemble it all then bake it in the oven?
