As a warning - NOT STILTON. I thought a more savoury porridge might be an interesting option but it was absolutely disgusting.

MummyJ12 · 14/10/2022 09:59

My granny taught me the best way. Irish recipe of porridge, milk, butter, sugar and salt. Heaven and proper comfort food. The more butter the better but it’s not a healthy option!

Yupbutnobut · 14/10/2022 10:05

I just have porridge made with milk and a teaspoon (tablespoon most of the time, I'm in denial) of Nutella stirred through. Reading all the poncey replies makes me realise how common that is, but I love it.

Haha oh dear! Thank you for the warning! I do like Stilton but never thought to put it on my porridge. Brandy butter does sound good though.

I like my porridge cooked with a good pinch of salt and water. I then do a moat of milk and either a squeeze of golden syrup or some dark brown sugar on top

MsMiaWallace · 14/10/2022 10:06

I like chopped dates/apricot & honey.

Or spoon of lemon curd

NoDairyNoProblem · 14/10/2022 10:09

My favourites are:
oat milk and topped with pecans and honey or
almond milk topped with warmed frozen cherries and a 1 square of dark chocolate

HoHoHowMuch · 14/10/2022 10:09

Make with coconut milk then add chopped banana and dates.

Brown sugar or honey or maple syrup and raisins.

I want to like overnight oats and used to do a lovely sounding one with grated carrot, apple, raisins and spices. Just can't get on with the texture, it's too much like wallpaper paste.

Chelsea26 · 14/10/2022 10:10

Oats
vanilla yogurt
frozen raspberries
left overnight

redskyhaze · 14/10/2022 10:16

Cinnamon in the porridge as it's cooking.
Top with almond butter and jam.

Cwcwbird · 14/10/2022 10:26

I like carrot cake porridge - grated carrot, nutmeg, cinnamon and raisins. And Brown sugar.

Coldilox · 14/10/2022 10:27

Oats
Milk

BaskingInTheSun · 14/10/2022 10:30

Banana, walnuts or pecans, maple syrup.

Zespri2022 · 14/10/2022 10:38

Banana, cinnamon and frozen blueberries on top of oats and water then microwave.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 14/10/2022 10:52

simple

1 cup of oats 1 cup water 1 cup milk in saucepan pinch of salt gentle heat till thick tip in bowl(s) top with brown sugar or golden syrup or fruit or cinnamon etc
you can use all water less creamy and add cold milk on top

Arenanewbie · 14/10/2022 11:00

I do half water half milk, jumbo oats and then a tablespoon of double cream, sprinkle of cinnamon and stewed apple with pear or prunes/ blueberries/banana plus some chopped pecan or walnuts.

I do @MummyJ12’s porridge for DD when she is unwell - it’s s great medicine.

WizardOfUK · 14/10/2022 11:25

Something a little different you can make and keep for a few days. Mash up 2 bananas, add porridge oats and make into biscuit type shapes, put a frozen berry or two on the top and bake.

katesbushh · 15/10/2022 00:04

Nuts and honey is my favourite.

If I have leftover clotted cream and strawberries that's lovely too.

Humobean · 15/10/2022 00:10

Baked oats - plenty of recipes online. I use porridge oats, milled linseed, pears/apples/ berries/ whatever, baking powder, brown sugar, mixed spice/cinnamon, then for liquid ingredients: eggs, vanilla essence, milk, melted butter. Mix altogether and bake. Tis like pudding for breakfast.

Teresa777 · 15/10/2022 00:14

I soak rolled oats overnight with frozen raspberries, tinned peaches, almond milk and chia seeds, with a bit of the juice from the peaches or a wee squirt of caramel drizzle.

Teresa777 · 15/10/2022 00:14

@Humobean That sounds lush

CarrieMoonbeams · 15/10/2022 00:16

I had the breakfast of champions last Christmas morning. A big bowl of porridge cooked in milk, with a big swirl of single cream and a hot mince pie on top 😍 (a Christmas-type of mince pie, not a meat type, just in case anyone was wondering!)

Humobean · 15/10/2022 00:17

@Teresa777 it is indeed. I keep it in the fridge and eat it over several days for breakfast - heat it in the microwave and add cold milk 😋

Blueuggboots · 15/10/2022 00:31

A spoonful of biscoff spread.

Peanut butter and banana.

Cinnamon and blueberry.

BeetFeet · 15/10/2022 22:19

I watched an episode of Nigel Slater and he was taught how to make the perfect bowl by a Scottish champion porridge maker. I haven't gilt round to trying it yet but I've never been so eager to eat porridge since watching.

I'm crazy for porridge.

I like it with a dollop of Nutella and chopped hazelnuts, with sugar and lemon, or with stewed apples, seeds, raisins and sugar and cinnamon.
