Expecting 15-22 people for evening/night party at the turn of autumn to winter. Will make use of BBQ and patio + all (mid size) rooms downstairs!

50% veggies. 50% omnivores and no allergies.

need ideas for -

  1. A few scalable mains for an autumn night that people can help themselves to from dining table
  2. Starters and nibbles (don’t mind shop bought)
  3. What to use the BBQ for (guessing veggie sausages and burgers and meat ones on a different grill)
  4. Creative ideas for drinks!

Obvs not at same time! Just family seen to congregate more in autumn months.

Jacket potatoes, Autumn slaw, roast butternut salad, smoky bean salad, bangers (on the bbq), crusty rolls and chestnut and mushroom sausage rolls.

For drinks, I’d do mulled cider, mulled apple juice, eggnog, blackberry or damson gin….

Nibbles: root vegetable crisps, hickory smoked nuts and baked breaded mushrooms.

For pudding: small squares of sticky ginger cake, chocolate and fig brownies with spiced creme fraiche and toffee apple flapjacks.

Very difficult to suggest without knowing your budget.
However, I would make a big pot (or two) of either pumpkin and ginger or leek and potato soup - use Hokkaido pumpkins as they do not need to be peeled, veg. stock, everyone catered for.
I am not a big fan of barbecues, but you could do beef short ribs in a sticky sauce, cook in the oven and finish off on the flames. Vegetable kebabs. Sides of coleslaw and other salads.
Definitely second the idea of brownies of some kind or possibly barbecued pineapple (marinated in a lemon grass syrup) with cream or ice-cream.

Brilliant thanks so much!!! These are fab ideas to pick from! I suppose one consideration is people eating whilst standing around rather than sitting down with plate knife and fork on table ……

I saw a recipe for winter pimms which I thought would be good. I think chilli is nice easy one (Jamie does a nice one) and easy to do veggie one, then choice of nachos, rice or jacket potato. Quite easy to eat with just a fork too. Brownies would work really well, blackforest brownies are nice and a bit different and more autumnal I think (recipe online I think but just add frozen cherries and fig sherry to any brownie recipe). My sister did a posh slow cooker hot choc last autumn and then some people kind of had that for dessert (add cream, flake etc) If using the bbq I would keep it simple and do various burgers, beef, pork, veggie, chicken etc and various toppings. I think doing a couple of things well works best. Good luck 😊

When looking for something else, came across this (or something similar). Ie. Chilli in the middle with jacket potato, dips, salads etc around the edge.

We are doing something similar and I am making Squash Mac n Cheese. Also sausages on the fire pit. I know you are asking about food, but can I ask if you are planning any games.

We had forty guests (incl. c. 15 kids) last weekend for an autumnal bbq. We had Bratwurst, veggie and vegan Bratwurst, pork shoulder steaks, halloumi steaks. Salads - couscous salad , lentil salad, tomato mozarella, autumnal lambs lettuce salad) and baguette.
Then we had a huge carrot cake, an apple cake, plum crumble, apple crumble and berry crumble and vanilla ice cream.
We had red and white wine, Aperol Spritz and Prosecco, Bier and Alcohol-free beer, water.
It worked really well and we didn’t have loads of leftovers.
