Roasted brussels sprouts

When you roast Brussels sprouts, do you parboil or not? Making a roast tomorrow, and I'm already parboiling parsnips so won't be any additional effort if it makes them better. I'm veggie, so can't add any bacon to them (I know other common recipe is fried with bacon).

Bump. I'd love to know this too.

BeetFeet · 01/10/2022 19:09

I wouldn't.

Greenbeanmcgee · 01/10/2022 19:10

I never parboil them when roasting.

I do not parboil. Cut into halves or maybe quarters, fry a little with bacon (sorry veggies), and a combination of any one of walnuts, chorizo, garlic, whatever's good, balsamic and into the oven.

Sprinkle of parmesan when it's cooked.

I love roasted veg including brussel sprouts, never par boil, just toss in oil.

Hohofortherobbers · 01/10/2022 19:14

How long do you roast them for?

NormalNans · 01/10/2022 19:17

Roasted. Sprouts. How did I not know this?

I love sprouts and even have sprout soup so this is a revelation!

Depends what you'd cooking them with. About 45 minutes with a roast chicken. I like them squishy.

My mum does, so that's what I've always done! Whether it's actually needed or if it's like that story where the whole family always cut the ends off the roast after copying great-grandma who only did it as her pot was too small I have no idea.

I love brussel sprouts!!

I halve them lenth ways.
Cook in a pan with a little olive oil and minced garlic, salt and pepper.
Put them in a pan face down so they get a nice caramelised colour running through. High heat, lid on so they steam aswel.

So delicious. My mouth is actually watering while I type.

Hohofortherobbers · 01/10/2022 19:37

Wow, I need to rethink sprouts, I've only ever steamed

Figgyroller · 01/10/2022 19:40

I roast straight from fozen - with garlic, harrissa and halloumi. Yum!

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 19:41

No need to parboil.

Yum, I love roast sprouts!

I like them shredded (or finely chopped) and stir-fried with butter and a few chilli flakes and lemon. Lovely.
