Tinned soup recommendations.

Quite like soup, occasionally make home made and occasionally buy supermarket fresh in a carton. Often have tomato soup in for daughter. Anyway thought I'd try cut down on the bread and bought a few tins if heinz soup, the first I tried was cream of chicken, my favourite from childhood and either my pallets changed or the recipe as it was so bland I had to put loads of salt and pepper in but still not great. Anyway just heated up some vegetable soup, heinz again and it is so sweet almost inedible. So what tinned soup should I buy?

I only like tinned tomato soup. And I prefer Tescos own over any other brand.

I go for lentil and bacon or ham type soups in tins or consommé. I usually buy own brand Waitrose and have them in for emergencies.

ParkheadParadise · 30/09/2022 12:39

My favourite is
Heinz Tomato Soup, served piping hot with white thick sliced bread.

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/09/2022 12:41

Tomato soup is probably my least favourite.

Aldi chicken and bacon
Asda cream of chicken was nice
sainsburys spicy chicken and red pepper
sainsburys indian style cauliflower and potato

Sainsbury's own-brand cream of mushroom. I got over my reluctance to try own-brand soups during lockdown and haven't looked back. Also pea & ham, and some of their healthier range with beans.

If you’ve got a Waitrose nearby, it’s worth calling in and stocking up on soup from their Essentials range. I’ve tried them all and they’re much better than the branded ones.

Tescos own brand vegetable soup is much better than Heinz. I agree that the Heinz one has a really weird taste to it. My children eat the Tesco one but no Heinz.

Personally, the only tinned soup I really enjoy is cream of tomato.

I'm not a great fan of tinned soup but M&S tarka dhal soup is very tasty and quite filling. At £1.05 it isn't too pricey by M&S standards.

MrsSwnllyd · 30/09/2022 14:11

Baxter's lentil and bacon is my 'poorly' food.

Imtoooldforallthis · 30/09/2022 18:44

Thanjs for all the recommendations, I'll definately be giving some a try.

@Imtoooldforallthis
Tesco vegetable is really surprisingly nice - its the only thing i go in there for ! it has some mild spice in - and lots of veg that aren't soggy. i had some marks and Spencer minestrone today for lunch and that was lovely too, i know what you mean it is quite convenient to have the cans i take them to work for lunch now its getting colder weather

The sainsburys beef and vegetable soup is nice. Haven't tried the chicken and veg one yet so can't comment on that one

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/09/2022 19:01

M&S Tomato and Basil is my favourite.

Crosse and Blackwell winter vegetable is lovely

Cotswoldmama · 30/09/2022 19:06

Aldi do some lovely soups I'm a fan of their carrot and coriander, tomato and basil and lentil.
I watched a programme about soup and apparently the fresh soups are the same as the tinned!

TroysMammy · 30/09/2022 19:07

Crosse and Blackwell roasted chicken and vegetable.

I really enjoyed Covent Garden chicken soup when I had tonsillitis but when I ate it after I had recovered it didn't taste as nice.
