Mashed potato topped pies

The thread about cheese and potato pie has made me crave mashed potato, even though the DC only really eat it in the winter I love it!
So, I'm after potato topped pie ideas and recipes please.
Chicken and leek pie: poach chicken and leeks in a little milk. Once cooked mix the milk with chick stock if you have it or add a stock cube and a little warm water; use this liquor to make a roux sauce. Add the meat and leeks, stirring to coat everything. In an ovenproof dish top the mix with buttery mash. Rough up the top with a fork so it goes crispy. Bake until golden.
What are your favourites?

I don't like mashed potato at all, but can tolerate a little on a fish pie. I make it with a roux base, but a fishmonger once suggested sticking all the fish in whatever you will cook it in and then just pouring over cream then potato on top. It did work, but not v trad for me. Though I don't like egg or gherkin or whatever weirdness others put in theirs. Peas on the side and HP sauce to serve.

I made a Mary Berry (thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/vegetable-and-lentil-cottage-pie/) lentil and vegetable one on Monday for the first time, it’s really good and satisfying. I love mashed potatoes and we eat them quite often, but I don’t make them very buttery, I prefer them less rich, just a small knob of butter is enough for me in a family sized batch of potatoes.

Hard boiled eggs, halved. Cooked chopped leeks. Cheese sauce. Top with mash & grated cheese on top. Made for me by a vegetarian friend and it was gorgeous. When I made it at home I added some chopped cooked bacon.

Pirate Pie, it was shared on here years ago and my kids used to love it (not made it for about 5 years like)

Fish fingers, topped with beans then mash and obviously cheese.

Simple but delicious.

Oh yes and cowboy pie - mini sausages, baked beans, topped with mash.

ooh I like the sound of that!

Do you think it would work with peas and gray instead of beans?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 15/09/2022 09:38

Gray? Gravy obviously Grin

We have shepherds and cottage pies obviously both mash topped but also top ragu with cheese and parsley mash and it's a game changer 😋

Similar chicken pie to yours here https://www.waitrose.com/content/waitrose/en/home/recipes/recipedirectory/c/cheesyymashtoppeddbakewithhchickenanddvegetables.html

I don't use Waitrose anything tho 😆 and use yoghurt instead of crème fraiche as always have that in and yknow economising. Have also made with cooked chicken after a roast that feeds us for a fortnight.

Also top Somerset stew with cheesy mash just cos I can and we love it!

Red Dragon Pie
Cooked red kidney beans, mashed, mixed into a tomato and onion pasta sauce, add any veggies you want to the sauce, top with cheesy buttery mash. Grill til golden.

It used to be my frugal meal for the end of the month especially if you cook dried kidney beans yourself. The kids love it I’ve never told them the ingredients though!!

I don't see why not - just a small amount of gravy to bind it (think shepherds pie or steak and kidney amount if gravy) then more over the top.
