What to do with eating apples

Our apple tree has had produced more fruit this year than ever before and I’m wondering what I can do with them all? They are red eating apples so go mushy and a bit insipid in a pie or crumble.

Have done a couple of tarts so far and we are trying to eat them but we still have a huge amount!

Any ideas gratefully received!

You need Mary Berry's Apple Cake in your life! I've made it with eating apples and it's still delicious. Reduce the sugar, though.

Just don't cook the apple for as long for the crumble? You're not pre cooking the fruit, are you?

I've also got this problem OP. I made apple jam yesterday, I've also made apple sorbet. I may make some chutney if I can find some more empty jars...

Ours is the same! If you wrap the apples in newspaper and put in a dark cool place they’ll keep over winter!

but also could make apple tartlet rolls using a sheet of puff pastry, grate the apples on top, then a generous (to taste) sprinkling of cinnamon and then roll up, slice so them make like danish swirls and shove in the oven for 10 mins until golden brown. You can freeze them but they last 2-3 days in the fridge! It’s actually a baby weaning recipe but I make it all the time as a treat/snack.

Get prepared for Christmas - you could make Apple and cranberry chutney and mincemeat.

Also, tarte tatin is usually made with eating apples.

I'm about to make some apple and chilli chutney with just a fraction of ours!

Also, I’m sure Jamie Oliver’s apple strudel recipe uses eating apples.

So yesterday I made this:

Apple & chilli chutney

It uses 2kg of apples, and made more than the recipe stated - so I ended up with 3 x 500ml Kilner jars, plus 1 smaller jar (probably around 150ml), and a large spoonful that was too much to throw away, so is currently in the fridge!

Very easy - although a bit tedious peeling/coring all those apples! - and is smells lovely. Will be ready to eat in 2 weeks' time.

Also good to know the trick of keeping them in newspaper - don’t think we will need to buy any apples until Spring 😁
