Best recipe for brown lentils with salmon?

That's it really. I want to cook salmon and brown lentils, but not curry.

Most of the online recipes are curry and I want a nice spicy recipe but not curry flavour.

Anyone got a really nice recipe?

First, bin the brown lentils….

Ok, if you insist. You could make a Salmon Chowder. However, I’d cook the brown lentils separately. Then drain the broth from the chowder, blitz the cooked lentils into the broth, and then add back to the chowder.

LOL too late! I realised you're supposed to soak the lentils for 12 hours.

So I did something else with the salmon and now I've got lentils soaking. So now I need a recipe for just salmon....

Oh, you can make veggie burgers with brown lentils…
Add chopped onion and grated carrot to a can of brown lentils, rinsed, drained and mashed. Mix in chopped fresh herbs, fresh breadcrumbs and an egg to hold it together. Shape into patties, coat in flour, lightly coat with oil and then pan-fry, grill or bake until golden.

Or you can make a vegetarian pasta bolognaise only substitute the brown lentils for the mince.

This is my favourite thing to do with brown lentils (and would go nicely with salmon for next time!)

I’m the only lentil eater and a bit lazy so I use ready made pouches from Aldi. They’re French or Spanish “inspired” (garlic, tomatoes and relevant herbs) I cook them in the air fryer with the salmon on top, skin side down, sprinkled with salt, smoked paprika and a bit of extra olive oil. Delicious.

Don't put them together. Spanish lentil casserole for starters, grilled salmon after.

Surely bog standard brown / green / red.lentils don’t need any soaking? They cook in half an hour (or 15-20 min for split red lentils).

I love lentils and salmon but wouldn't have them together so I'll follow for recipes, but if I'm pairing beans and fish one of my current favourites is to blitz chickpeas or lima beans with olive oil and lemon and have that as a base for grilled fish with something green in the side line salad, spinach, broccoli.

I read the OP yesterday and didn’t post because all I could have said was “don’t put them together”.

I eat a lot of lentils and beans and I’ve found they generally don’t need the addition of fish, so I tend to do one or the other. And salmon is such a delicate tasting thing, best with herbs, whereas lentils want strong flavours and work best with spices. Never the twain …!

My favourite lentil recipe:

2x leak, 250ml chicken or veggie stock, 200g brown soaked lentils or 100g dry red lentils, some butter, a dash of cream, 2 tra spoons of mustard for seasoning use parsly, salt, sugar, pepper & lemon juice.

Chop the leek and bring in children stock to the boil, simmer a few minutes add lentils and simmer until tender,
Season with the rest of the ingredients to taste and enjoy!

Can be eaten solo or with fish / meat and new potatoes!
