Lidl 'Greek week' - please let me know

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 07/09/2022 07:04

I do have access to Lidl but Aldi is a lot closer, as is every other supermarket, so I rarely shop there.

I did once buy some fantastic Greek ingredients from Lidl when they were having a Greek special, and I'd love to pick up some more.

Do you know if this is a regular offer? Or is it a summer thing? or was it a one off?

Thanks

It's quite regular, every few months but not in a pattern that is predictable as far as I know. You'd have to keep an eye on 5e website.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2022 07:21

What sort of things do they sell?

SuperCamp · 07/09/2022 07:36

I love greek week. My favourites:

Stewed aubergines in tins
Giant butter beans in tomato and dill sauce
Dolmades
Big frozen filo pastry swirls stuffed with cheese and spinach

Also frozen gyros pieces.

CatherineMaitland · 07/09/2022 07:36

Really good pastries, beans, pearl couscous, coffee, dolma, sauces, etc. Plus some frozen meals, yogurt and other stuff. I like it a lot.

It's irregular, but if it was fairly recently they tend to have a bay with the remaining previous week's stock in, so if it's something long dated/ frozen, they might have them in for a while. They tend to have a different cuisine every few weeks.

Regular, and usually late August/early September plus 2/3 other times a year. The giant cheese pie is my favourite!

Has there just been one then? If so, I'll go and see if there are any 'leftovers' as PP suggested.

The last one was late July

NoSquirrels · 07/09/2022 07:58

There was one pretty much end of July/early August, as we stocked up on the frozen swirls and my kids ate them over the holidays. You might get lucky OP but otherwise have to wait for the next one.

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 07/09/2022 07:59

Greek week was a little while ago, earlier in the summer holidays, and the one previously was back in May. Hopefully it will come round again soon as my dolmades stash is low.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 07/09/2022 08:01

Thanks all, sounds like I've missed it for now. Will keep an eye on the website for it coming back.

If you sign up to their emails, you'll get a few days notice of when it's going to happen, so you can plan to do your shopping there in the relevant period and stock up.

As for stock levels, it seems a bit random. Sometimes something sells out in the first day or two, sometimes things are still available past the end of the promotion, it's hard to tell.

bigbluebus · 07/09/2022 08:03

If you download the Lidl app then the current and next weekly offers booklets are available to look at on there (or you can access them on their website). This will tell you what the next special week is - about to be Alpine I think.

tulips27 · 07/09/2022 08:04

According to this site offers.kd2.org/en/gb/lidl/ it seems the last one was in early July:

offers.kd2.org/en/gb/lidl/oblhg/2022-07-21/

I think I remember it as someone bought up all the tahini in my local store and I remember feeling annoyed about it. I do like Lidl but it's so popular near me, your really have to be there on the day of the offer to stand a chance of getting what you want. There's a lot of things I've missed out on. This weekend I went on the first day of the "underwear" offer to try and get cotton vest tops and they had already gone. 😩

tulips27 · 07/09/2022 08:06

*on the first day of the offer

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 07/09/2022 08:06

I will download app and register for emails, thank you for those suggestions

Any day now the Christmas stuff will start, which is the end of ‘country’ weeks til January.

BerthaBetty · 07/09/2022 17:19

Oh the leek and cheese swirls in the freezer. Delicious!

Can't wait for Christmas - I wait all year for the mini almond florentines.
