Want something exciting to serve with a veggie moussaka

I've got family coming and there's no point doing my usual guesty cooking because they won't like it and I'll be cross to have gone to all that effort for nothing.

So, am doing Delia's v nice veggie moussaka. Done it lots of times before. It's lentilly and cinnamony.

Am catatonic with bordom at the thought of serving it with a nice green salad and some bread. Despite the fact that this is what they'd like most...

What do you serve with moussaka?

Well yes, I'm sure a leg of lamb is what they'd most like but they ain't getting that!

Sweet potato chips... would that really go?

mini garlic roasted potatoes?

chilli chips?

couscous salad with feta cheese and roast veg?

I think you need a nice crisp salad and crusty bread to mop it up .. it's difficult to suggest anything else because they work so well

Green beans in garlic - served warm or at room temperature.

Cook whole green beans until al dente. Finely cut up a couple of garlic cloves. Mix 1 part vinegar to 3 parts extra virgin oil, add the garlic and pour over beans and toss.

Well alright... but how about an EXCITING crisp green salad? With EXCITING things in it? Such as... umm...

The green beans sound delicious. I do like green beans.

How about some toasted pine nuts sprinkled on the salad or some croutons.
With a balsamic dressing.

Mangetout as a side dish .

Also could you have some humous and breadsticks or sticks of celery, carrot etc as an apertiser.{sp}

Ciabatta bread toasted with a good olive oil and some olives.

Nice crisp green salad is best though. With rings of different coloured peppers & red onions because crunchy is good. And crusty bread that's nice and fluffy inside.

And a sliced tomato, basil & mozzarella salad, with vinaigrette dressing.

I do Delias meat version and always do some Brown rice, then top the rice with crumbled feta, chopped Olives and Toasted Pine Nuts.

I am drooling thinking about it

I do a salad too - Crisp Lettuce, Peppers, Cherry Toms and Cucumber - with more Feta and Olives if you like. Drizzle with Olive Oil and a grind of black pepper.
