Catering quantities

Due to having no kitchen (mid renovation) we are doing a Waitrose order for food for a family tea party (lunchtime) for DD’s 3rd birthday. We will have access to a fridge and can heat sausage rolls but oven space severely limited (but they all like a sausage roll).

9 hungry adults and 1 3 yo that either eats a load or nothing. Budget not really a consideration (£200ish).

I am a notorious over caterer but hate the thought of people being hungry. Half the party are traveling to us. No veggies or dietary requirements.

We are getting the rolls/sandwiches/ wraps/sausage rolls/salads and will add some good ham and pudding. There will also be a cake.

How many items/how much per person for people to be stuffed? www.waitrose.com/ecom/shop/browse/entertaining/shop_by_occasion/birthday_party

I don’t want tons left as we won’t be able to store it. But I have a huge fear of hungry guests and so usually buy double what we eat.

Help?!

In the trolley so far I have

2 lots of the rolls as like the fillings (30 pieces)
1 lot of fish sandwiches (20)
1 lot of the roulade wraps (24)
3 salads (each serves up
to 8)
48 sausage rolls (they are small)
1 lot of fruit kebabs (toddler adores these)
2 lots of profiteroles (I could eat all of them myself)

Then will get a cooked ham from the butcher and nice crisps. Plus birthday cake.

Is that enough or not?

Thats plenty and very generous of you, wish i was coming 😁

So roughly each adult can have 5-ish sausage rolls and 7-ish sandwiches/wraps plus salad and cake and ham and crisps etc?
Sounds like tons to me.

Way more than enough

You are definitely over catering. It is so hard not to though! I always have a fear of not enough and oversupply. Do you need 3 salads? That is enough to cover 24, surely 2 (16) is still oversupply?
It sounds lovely though!

I would be tempted to swap one of the sandwich choices to the large pie - maybe as I know that would go down like a storm with my family! OR ask your family butcher if he can provide a large pork pie. There's a lot of bread based items.
My DH would also be fighting me to swap the fish sandwiches to the Indian snacks - but that obviously relies on your oven!

Thank you. I’m trying to avoid any food prep as we only have a combination microwave at the moment- I can do sausage rolls in a few batches but don’t want to do more than I have to as it will take a while. We have literally no kitchen at the moment but for various reasons it has to be at home (rest of house is fine!).

I can get a pork pie though-we live near Melton so good pies are aplenty although only about half those coming like it. It won’t go to waste as DH loves them 😊

Probably not! I expect tbh we don’t need salad at all but it feels like there should be some. You are probably right that 2 is enough though!
