Flour advice

Wingedharpy · 17/08/2022 19:18

Quick one.
Can I use wholemeal bread flour in place of wholemeal self raising flour?
I need it for a "healthy" breakfast bun so these are quite dense things rather than light, fluffy afternoon tea type objects, anyway.
Do I need to add anything else presuming I can.
Thank you.

Yes you’ll need to add some baking powder (amount depending on the quantity). It’ll just give a different texture but sounds like that’s OK.

Yes, but you'll have to add baking powder - 2tsps of baking powder per 150g of flour. Because bread flour has a higher gluten content than plain/self-raising flour, you might find the buns a bit denser/chewier than normal.

@ReeseWitherfork @rbe78 Thank you kindly. Very helpful. I'm having difficulty sourcing my usual flour presumably because of Ukraine situation.
