Supermarket samosas and bhajis can be a bit hit and miss, as can the breads. Can anyone recommend really good ones please ? Unfortunately I don't have the skills or time to tackle making them myself.

The clay oven Naan breads are the best, I buy them from Morrisons or Tesco. They're usually near the bakery section. I'm also a big fan of Morrisons bhajis and pakoras from the deli section or counter.

If you can go to an Indian supermarket the frozen parathas are excellent and just a couple of minutes each in a pan. Maybe outdated knowledge now, but I tried the Spice Tailor naans a few years ago expecting them to be better than the standard supermarket ones, but they weren’t good at all.

Could you get some from a local restaurant rather than supermarket?

MrsKippling · 11/08/2022 15:35

These are the Clay oven Naan breads they're really big but completely different and much nicer than any other shop bought Naan I've ever had.

I’d go to a local restaurant tbh. Supermarket doesn’t compare

dementedpixie · 11/08/2022 15:37

We use those naan breads too
The Mrs Umis pakora is good - we buy onion, veg, chicken and haggis ones

dementedpixie · 11/08/2022 15:39

Sorry, Mrs Uni

dementedpixie · 11/08/2022 15:39

I get them in asda or Morrison's

Haggis pakora ! Love it. Thanks for all these great suggestions. Supermarket naans can be like damp duvets so good to see there's some decent ones out there. I hadn't thought about local restaurants either but that is an idea.

I second frozen parathas, they are delicious! I can get them in Morrisons but live in a fairly Asian area.

A wild card bread option from me is Sainsburys mini naans but cooked in the toaster and brushed with butter afterwards.

I can’t recall any Indian starters from a supermarket that has really impressed me. But I am a snob for Indian food and absolutely spoiled living where I do!

Matildahoney · 11/08/2022 16:36

M&S bhajis, samosas, pakoras etc are pretty decent, the chilled ones

TheDogsMother · 11/08/2022 16:44

I know what you mean Summa. I used to live in an area with a big Asian community and loved being able to walk to the nearest shop to get fabulous food.

Thanks for the other suggestions too.
