I was considering a soda stream - then I looked at the syrup ingredients!

So much artificial sweetners!

Unless I can find a sweetener free version

Sugar is not evil

I just use it to carbonise water and then add standard cordial to it.

ShaunaTheSheep · 02/08/2022 08:37

You don't have to use the syrups. Most are disgusting.

Have fizzy water with cordial, squash, juice or on its own, saves loads of plastic bottles.

I still buy tonic, lemonade, coke etc. for mixers.

KatyMac · 02/08/2022 08:49

But most cordials and squash is packed with sweetener too!

So frustrating

It was the plastic bottle reducing that appealled to me

How much fuzzy water do you drink. We go through such quantities that it’s worth it just for that!

Not Belvoir and Bottle Green cordials. They're gorgeous, and have no arrival sweeteners, flavours or colouring in them.

I'd love a Sodastream, but do says it'll be just one more thing to clutter up our already cluttered counters.

Stock up periodically in Waitrose. They always have a good selection of sweetener-free cordials.

Goatinthegarden · 02/08/2022 08:57

I love my soda stream. I just drink fizzy water.

Molecule · 02/08/2022 09:02

I bought one at the beginning of the year and find it’s great, I use my own elderflower cordial or a sprig of mint and slice of lemon or cucumber. I’ve found I use it all the time and it’s lovely to have fizzy water whenever you fancy it. Their own cordials are awful though, so don’t fall (as I did) for an “offer” including them, just get a basic machine.

autocollantes · 02/08/2022 09:02

What are you drinking now though? It's either fizzy water in which case the soda stream sorts that or it's drinks with added baddies? I can't think of "healthy" fizzy drinks.

Purplepatsy · 02/08/2022 09:08

I love my soda stream but I only drink fizzy water. It's really refreshing and I would never add a syrup.

Juancornetto · 02/08/2022 09:11

Fruit tea made with fizzy water is very refreshing. Aldi do a really nice peach and orange tea bag 👍

Quitelikeacatslife · 02/08/2022 09:38

We just use ours for sparkling water as we were having too many plastic bottles. Sometimes put bit of cordial in it , bottle green or similar but never bought soda steam ones.

Rainbowshit · 02/08/2022 11:32

We just use it for fizzy water. What are you drinking now if you think soda stream syrup is too artificial?!

pastypirate · 02/08/2022 11:47

I've just bought one with a voucher I got as a gift. I love it! No electricity needed (didn't know that!) and bought extra bottles. It's very green and I vow to stop buying bottles pop from now on which if I achieve this is a lot!
Planning to experiment with all kinds of cordial and teas - love the peach tea idea upthread!

The gas canisters are recycled/exchanged it's great!

Friffle · 02/08/2022 11:51

There are plenty of sweetener free cordials still about Bottle Green, Rocks, Teisseire, M&S do some…

longtompot · 02/08/2022 11:55

We have one somewhere in the house but I have no idea where it is! I was going to get it out to make soda water which we drink a lot of with homemade elderflower cordial or other shop bought squashes (we don't buy sugar free where we can). I wanted to just buy their tonic water syrup but can only see the sweetener added ones which is annoying.

longtompot · 02/08/2022 11:56

Forgot to say, after seeing Belvoir mentioned up thread I was shocked when I saw their ad a few days ago saying it's pronounced beaver! I never knew!

eurochick · 02/08/2022 18:31

I use ours mostly for fizzy water but occasionally use it with a naice sweetener-free cordial

Tulipvase · 05/08/2022 18:55

I’ve considered getting one as I drink a lot of sparkling water and hate the waste but money is sadly also a factor for me.

where is the best place to buy the gas things? It seemed quite expensive when I looked before.

drspouse · 06/08/2022 19:45

My DD can't have sweetener and we use:
Almost every elderflower cordial including own brand.
Roses Lime Juice Cordial.
Morrison's premium cordial.
Bottle Green is on offer at the moment but Belvoir is also sweetener free.
NOT Robinsons fancy cordial though!
Fizzy water is also nice with fresh juice or flavoured vodka.

drspouse · 06/08/2022 19:45

We get the gas canister from Argos or direct from Soda Stream.
