Cabbage as big as a football!

I kid you not! I got it from a local community farm and am quite intimidated by it 🫢

i normally use cabbage for coleslaws, or sautéed with onions but could do with some inspiration for making a few dishes with it.

I’ve had a look online but would like to hear some of your favourite cabbage recipes!

Stuffed cabbage leaves. We have this fairly regularly.

Roasted cabbage is lovely!

Remoulade (similar to coleslaw but much nicer IMO).

Sauerkraut/kimchi.

Good old stir fry!

NiqueNique · 23/07/2022 20:21

Also Norwegian cabbage and lamb stew. Add some extra seasoning if you’re not keen on very basic, bland (but delicious) flavours.

Colcannon, serve it with baked gammon joint or sausages.

Stuffed leaves with bolognaise type sauce or puy lentils & mushrooms mixture.

Cut into thick wedges including a section of stem/base so pieces stay whole. Briefly & gently parboil, drain very well. Arrange in a dish & coat with cheese sauce. Bake till sauce bubbles, serve with lamb or pork chops or steak or bœuf bourguignon.

Cheesy cabbage casserole

This soup is nice. I liquidise it (son would never eat it with obvious cabbage in it 🤣)

Okonomiyaki Japanese cabbage pancakes. They are really lovely.

NiqueNique · 24/07/2022 12:04

Oh yes, okonomiyaki is a great idea!! I’ve got a pointed cabbage in the fridge and will definitely be making some this week.

Cabbage thoran - really nice curry by meera Sodha
Bunny Chow
Roasted/Pan fried in wedges served with a Vietnamese style dressing

NiqueNique · 24/07/2022 12:16

Oh that sounds delicious too, will add that to my list!

I LOVE roasted cabbage - hispi/sweetheart/pointed is best for it but I can't see why it wouldn't work with white cabbage. Might fall apart a bit more but hey ho.

I'm intrigued by the Norwegian lamb and cabbage stew although it doesn't look super appetising 😁

Update - roasted cabbage wedges for the first time! Brushed with oil and sprinkled with cumin seeds, chilli flakes and seasoned.

Scrummy 😋

@Laquila its delicious in a verrrrry basic way. The kind of food that’s pure and unadulterated in a way that really feeds the soul (mine at least). Not the best looking dish...but I do like it a lot. I sometimes make it to the authentic recipe but other times I’ll mix it up a bit with stock, chilli flakes, quite a bit more seasoning and just throw a bit of whatever I fancy into it. That way is probably better suited to the modern palate that’s used to a more elaborate flavour profile.

Wedges chargrilled with honey mustard dressing.

Creamed cabbage as a Sunday roast side dish or with sausages.

Dolma (middle eastern stuffed cabbage rolls)

Patra (Gujarati cabbage rolls)

Oh that sounds lovely OP, must try it.
