If you were 11, what would you want in a picnic?

We're going to a festival in September, yes I know it's ages away, but I'm autistic and it'll bug me until I write a list. DS10 will have had his birthday by then, but never has any suggestions when I ask him.

Sausage rolls and sandwiches and crisps

Snack eggs, Cheddars, Babybels, Pringles, mini cherry bakewells, baby plum tomatoes, olives, brownies, jam tarts...those were my boys' favourite picnic bits at that sort of age.

A ham sandwich, a packet of crisps and bottle of fizzy juice (what I would have liked at age 11).

My mum always did

  • cold chicken drumsticks
  • boiled eggs still in the shell so we cracked them when we wanted to eat them
  • cherry tomatoes
  • cucumber sticks
  • satsumas
  • grapes
  • packet of crisps
  • Kit Kat or penguin
  • a big bottle of squash to share.

Yes to sausage rolls and cheese strings.
Mini rolls (the chocolate variety!), grapes, Pringles, watermelon, Jaffa cakes and pizza slices.

My 12 year olds favourite picnic things are:
Tubes of pringles
Lots of different small sandwiches
Little sausage rolls
Veggie sticks and dip
Party rings (well actually Lidls cheap version)
Drinks that he doesnt usually get like Ribena or Oasis

Daffodilsdance · 17/07/2022 17:38

Pringles
sausage rolls
pre cut chunks of water melon
kitkats
mini scotch eggs
ham and coleslaw in crusty rolls

When mine were that age they'd have liked a chicken wrap, mini cocktail sausages, savoury eggs, carrot sticks and grapes.

We get a box of frozen Indian snacks (mini samosas, bhajis etc) and cook them the night before to eat cold. A pack of wraps or flatbreads and a bag of salad/sauce so that they can make themselves little wraps

Don't overthink it tbh, OP.

DS(8) would want ham or cheese sandwiches, crisps, small snack sized cake bars, bananas, cartons of juice.

Thanks for all these great suggestions!
