I am sure Heinz's is the only one without added synthetic ingredients compared to the other brands. It's why I continue to buy it.

I had to buy heinz once and the DC asked if I could get the real one the next time please , which in our house is Aldi.

Frazzlefrazle · 10/07/2022 21:21

M and s own brand although that has gone up in price quite considerably lately so not sure how much it compares price wise.

Maybe I should have asked which is closest in taste to Heinz in order to fool the pesky, fussy kids!

Sainsburys own brand. Just decant it into the Heinz bottle - they’ll never know the difference!
Same with their mayo compared to Hellman’s, which is over 4x the price!!!

Sainsburys ingredients: Water, Tomato Purée (29%), Sugar, Spirit Vinegar, Maize Starch, Salt, Spice Blend (Salt, Tomato Powder, Clove Extract), Clove Leaf Oil.

Heinz ingredients: Tomatoes (148g per 100g Tomato Ketchup), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Spice and Herb Extracts (contain Celery), Spice

neither of them contain synthetic ingredients.

Do you have a Heron near you? I bought 2 bottles of Maggi tomato ketchup today for £1. Really thick and nice tasting ketchup, it has a slight hint of spice.

Disneygirl37 · 10/07/2022 22:20

Lidl one is good

ha, I've already decanted the Tesco own brand into the Heinz bottle and bought a bottle of Sainsbury's to try next.
Nobody's noticed so far!

I switched to Sainsburys ages ago and the kids and DH complained for a bit - it does taste different but we are all used to it now and no complaints at all. It is significantly cheaper

RightOnTheEdge · 10/07/2022 23:37

I used to think I could never have any ketchup except Heinz. I used to hate cheap ones in cafes and chippys but now we use Supermarket own brand usually Tesco and I really can't tell and the kids never complain.
I think they've really improved over the years.

I'll have to have a look for that ketchup @ColouringPencils I love Herons!

Another vote for Sainsbo's.
