Best (cheapest) gin for damson gin?

We're about to have a huge glut of damsons and I thought I'd make a big batch of damson gin to give as Christmas presents.

Does anyone know who sells the cheapest supermarket gin? I'm guessing maybe Aldi or Lidl?

For my sloe gin I buy the 1.5l bottles of gin from Asda at around £22

All those shops are pretty much of a muchness with gin about £15 per litre

I don't know how the prices compare but I use Waitrose's own brand. It's £16 a litre and it's makes good liqueurs.

I rather like the Co-op one, or Waitrose. Sainbury's is OK.

The Lidl one is a bit rough, for my tastes, it's basically petrol. Haven't tried the Aldi one.

Don't make my mistake and try to do fruit gin using Hendricks. Doesn't work. At all. Too cucumbery.

I use the coop one. Though I try and buy something non - alky looking when I'm buying the 2 huge bottles of cheapest gin.

Aldi gin is great - the green bottle one!

I use Sainsbury's own brand (Hollow & Bourne) 1.5 litre bottles to make sloe gin. It's currently £22.50.

Damson cheese (also called paste) is useful for using up a glut too. I use the damson and rosemary cheese recipe from the Modern Preserver by Kylee Newton. There's one with some spice on bbc good food www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/spiced-damson-cheese

Mine is so thick that I pour it into little petit four moulds dusted with sugar then wrap. It keeps for aaages, especially in a jar.
