Is my chicken still ok to eat?

I cooked a chicken on saturday night, ate half of it (not all to myself obviously lol) and then wrapped the rest of it in foil and stuck it in the fridge.

We then had most of what was left for tea last night, wrapped it in foil and put it back in fridge.

There is still a bit left today which I'm considering having for lunch.

Will it still be ok?

yeah should be, we used to keep chicken for three days when I worked in catering.

helsy · 14/01/2008 10:34

Two days- I would eat it.

nannyL · 14/01/2008 10:40

oh yes, most definitley

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 10:41

I'd eat it

perpetualworrier · 14/01/2008 11:21

Yes I would keep it for another day yet if I needed to and then make soup from the bones

Rhubarb · 14/01/2008 11:22

Not read OP, but I'm answering YES.

fryalot · 14/01/2008 11:22

definitely.

Twill be fine.

Unless, of course, you have reheated it three times. If you have eaten/are eating it cold, it will be absolutely fine.

Rhubarb · 14/01/2008 11:23

Ok, have now read op. Answer is still yes.

We usually have chicken as a Sunday Roast (nice big battery hen ), we'd curry the leftovers on Sunday and the rest would be used for sandwiches until Wed.

BTW, how do you make soup from the bones?

fryalot · 14/01/2008 11:45

you boil the bones in loads of water. Boil them a bit more, then a bit more.

Then you take the bones out and you should be left with a really nice stock. If you're really lucky, you'll have bits of meat in there too.

You can either use this as the base of a soup, or you can just have it as a really watery soup with loads of crusty bread. Yum Yum.

(was your chicken a two for a fiver one?)

Rhubarb · 14/01/2008 11:51

How do you keep stock then?

(We got one of those pre-cooked chickens for £3 from Asda cause we were late back)

lizziemun · 14/01/2008 12:46

I cook either chicken bones or chicken wings with carrot, onions (don't season)

I store mine in the freezer. if i am not going to use in the next day or two.

fryalot · 14/01/2008 13:16

tell you what's a fab way of keeping stock... freeze it in ice cube trays. If you boil it and boil it and boil it, it reduces down to really flavoursome stock and one ice cube worth is all you need.

Of course, I never actually get around to doing this - not organised enough - I generally just make soup with it the next day and have done with it!

Chopster · 14/01/2008 16:05

I stick carrots and onions in too. and celery.
