Why does the chicken smell so bad?

im Wondering if it’s just all in my head.
I’ve always had a thing with meat, I don’t like eating/cooking with it.

I switched to quorn couple years ago, then my doctor thought my son was anemic so I panicked and started using meat again.

I always use chicken breast for chicken recipes, but tonight i was given some chicken thighs and decided to make a chicken casserole. The smell is just not appetising!!! It’s the same smell that I used to get when I made roast chicken!
even with lots of herbs, spices and vegetables, it’s horrid!!

I know I won’t eat what I’ve made tonight or I’ll just pick at the veg.

is it just me? Is it the bones? Why does it smell like this!!??

I love the smell of cooking chicken. It must be the bones if you don't get it with chicken breast?

I prefer chicken thighs to breast
They have much more flavour

Is it the raw chicken that smells or cooked chicken? I know what you mean about smelly chicken though. I'm really sensitive to it too. So before I marinate/ cook it, I wash and clean the chicken (with or without bones). Just give the chicken a quick rinse under a cold tap, put it in a bowl of cold water with some vinegar and salt. Leave it for a few minutes (NOT longer), rinse and then keep washing it until it doesn't smell anymore. Then marinate/ cook as you please. Once you cook it the chicken will not stink then either. Trust me.

please don't wash raw chicken.
that's a hreat way to get ecoli or salmonella all over your kitchen Envy

It’s fine raw, just smells like raw chicken (which I try not to smell too much because it also puts me off) but when it’s cooking! I find I can’t stand the smell.

it’s either the bones or perhaps the way I’m cooking it? I followed a recipe, fried the thighs first, add onions fry then put in stock and other veg.

if I ever find myself in the possession of chicken thighs again I’ll definitely try some heavy marination and see if that helps and probably try grilling or roasting.

The smell of most fish and meat doesn't bother me. But cooking beef mince to me is horrible.

When we cut the live chicken, the smell of blood is also little in the chicken meat. It will make little bad smell, but after cook that fresh chicken, we smell yummy and spicy smell. I loves to eat spicy chicken.

warmsuncoldwind · 09/06/2022 07:03

If your son is anemic you need beef, there’s very little iron in chicken

Looloohoohoo · 09/06/2022 12:56

@warmsuncoldwind yeah Im aware it’s red meat and leafy greens etc. I was just explaining why I switched back over to meat again 😂
