Breakfast in bed

It's my husband's birthday on the weekend and I would like to let him have a lie-in, then surprise him with breakfast in bed which me and our 3 year old have made together
Does anyone have any ideas of what would make a good breakfast in bed but that a pre-schooler could help out with making?

I LOVE the Jus-Rol pain au chocolat you can get with the pre made pastry and little chocolate pieces. Comes in a tube that unroll, assemble everything and pop in the oven for 10 mins or so.

They're delicious, and feel a bit 'special,' and my 4yo loves to help Smile

That's a lovely idea! I'll see if they have it in the supermarket.

Or American style pancakes with berry compote and maple syrup? Very easy to make. I use Nigella Lawson's recipe.

Iflyaway · 28/05/2022 02:49

I love an Amer

F,sake... need an Edit button...

ican style breakfast, but not in bed!
Maple syrup on the sheets?? Likely with a 3-year-old...
If I had that I'd be chucking them, can't imagine the washing machine afterwards.

Those croissants in a tin are really good. Not sure if they still exist...Must check.

I did have a chuckle at the title cos there's an old (1970's?) lovely reggae song by that name and it's about sex in the morning. 🙂

Another vote for jus roll but for their croissants.

Orange juice.

Do you have a tray? Your little one can make a mat (draw a picture) to go under the plate. They can also pic a flower from the garden to go on the tray.

Hard boiled eggs and slices of ham, the ham can be rolled in to a tube shape.

Please take photos / film your 4 your old, it will be a treasure for the future.

Have you seen the bluey episode called 'omelette'? It's absolutely hilarious and basically this...

But in reality, yes yes yes to the jus rol croissants, or an omelette (little kids are great cracking eggs, whisking, stirring, adding things) and/or yoghurt and fruit? Your LO can organise juice, a picture/card, a flower in a cup and help with the food?

What a lovely idea, hope it goes down well.

tingalayo · 28/05/2022 13:15

Thanks for the ideas everyone! Really helpful. We're going with jus rol pain au Chocolat, ham and cheese arranged nicely and some of his favourite fruit on skewers xx

@lothermand How great someone else remembers that song!

I had it on an LP, all of which I gave away to a jazz-playing dad of DS's friend. (He is a record collector, had 3000 by then). We grew up during the LP days....

I bet it's on Youtube.

@tingalayo OP, sorry for hijacking your post.
I bet it was a wonderful family breakfast.
