Poshish puds?

I've got the inlaws coming for Sat supper and (light) Sun lunch.

Doing Moroccan on Sat. Baked ham Sun.

What shall I do for pud?

DP's family take their puddings seriously. Sat night should prob be cakish so I can put candles on.

Nothing too too fiddly. Something vaguely effortful and impressive though (...because, y'see, MIL, having spent the last decade hating me, will have one spoon of posh pudding and leap to her feet, pull me to her bosam and declare me the daughter she never had. Pudding can do that, right?)

Delia also has Chocolate Truffle Torte in the Christmas book, which is very easy and well-behaved and can be done in advance.

Bread and butter with dried apricots instead of currents is yummy.

Clementine almond cake - perfect for Sunday! Ideal. That's one sorted.

Still veering towards nigella's molten things on Sun night. Not sure.

Lol Quattro - I PROMISE NOT TO! It was Alice's patissiere suggestion that made me realise how carefully I need to think this through.

I might also steer away from chocolate as she always does chocolate and I don't want to do her thing by mistake.

DP claims to hate bread and butter pudding, so although it would be good, it's out. (It's my fave too).

Love the sparklers idea soapbox.

Last time I did the molten babycakes, I overcooked them and they weren't molten....

Do you have clementine cake recipe?

BroccoliSpears · 11/01/2008 20:50

Yep - just found it online. Looks dead easy. Whoo!

Got a great tip from the Green & Black's recipe book - grate Maya Gold over the cake when still hot, melts to form a delish topping.

Brownies. I'm going to do brownies.

... and it's bloody gorgeous! Don't listen to the nay-sayers, can recommend it heartily. Moist and citrusy and moreish. Really good.

I served it with dollops of creme fraiche mixed with clementine zest, some orange blossom water and a few toasted almonds on top.
