Thought some might be interested to know about the final 5 - there's a programme on BBC on 12th May to reveal the winner.

Rose falooda cake - A confection of vermicelli
and basil seeds steeped in a mascarpone rose
bath, layered between saffron sponges and
topped with rose petal jelly and chopped nuts
decorated with pistachio, gold leaf and glace
fruit

Four nations pudding - Scottish berries,
Yorkshire rhubarb, Welsh cakes and Irish butter
and cream

Jubilee Bundt cake - Victoria sponge shaped
like a crown, and filled with Dubonnet jam.

Lemon Swiss roll and amaretti trifle - Lemon
posset and a family favourite elevated to royal
status.

Passion fruit and thyme frangipane tart -
A summery combination of passion fruit jelly
with a hint of thyme and creamy cheesecake,
frangipane and buttery pastry.

Ooo thanks! Where did you find this info? Are there pics of these cakes somewhere? I'm salivating!

Will keep an eye on the program, can't wait, thanks for flagging as I'd vaguely heard about this competition but knew nothing more.

If I had to order just one right now it would be the passion fruit frangipane for sure!

Just seen the programme about the final. I must say, it made me slightly. cross - these were meant to be cakes that anyone could knock up in their kitchen, along similar lines to the Victoria sponge and coronation chicken - and I strongly doubt that anyone is contemplating knocking up any of these over the weekend.. Who has gold leaf or edible flowers lying around to decorate a cake with? And saffron is bloody expensive. The winning trifle sounded delicious, but it required at least a day's work for the average home cook.

I made mini jubilee trifles for today. Totally cheat and cheap and all shop bought.

Swiss roll, orange jelly with added lemon zest, custard with lemon curd mixed through, extra thick double cream with more lemon curd, shards of white chocolate cut straight from a bar, chocolate sprinkles. Might use crushed amaretti biscuits next time.
