Google has let me down so I'm appealing to you lovely lot for help.
Many many years ago I found a recipe online in the Herts and Essex Observer for a chicken bhuna it was titled something like mums chicken bhuna and went something along the lines of cooking onions for ages so that they were a really rich brown colour, adding garlic then even more garlic, I imagine ginger was also involved, then it was various dry spices like coriander, cumin, chilli powder water was then added and cooked down before the chicken was added and a splash more water if required the final steps where adding garam masala and natural but not fat free as to watery yoghurt.
The link to the page has long since stopped working and I've changed my phone so can't find the document I had with it on but I love this recipe as it doesn't contain tomatoes and I can't seem to find a recipe that replicates it so far on Google and I can't remember it well enough to cook from memory.
I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who finds it.

I dont know that recipe but use lots of Al's kitchen on youtube....so authentic but you do have to faff to make the base gravy also...he has lots of good recipes...also Latif's....have tried them also.

I did look at one recipe with a base gravy but the faff put me off but if I can't find "my" recipe I might have to reconsider and taste test a few.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Do you still have the link? There might be an archived version online

I can heartily recommend Nadiya Hussains lamb bhuna, very quick and tasty and I have done it with chicken as well.

It's on the BBC website and my top tip is to use half the amount of oil!

@toastofthetown unfortunately not that was also on my old phone along with all my pictures of DS born last June so aswell as being a terrible cook I'm also a terrible parent as I only have a few photos of the first year of his life 🙈

Do you know roughly when it's from?

You could always try and get in touch with them to see if they have an archive for you

This is my bhuna recipe. My husband's best friend is a chef and this makes an amazing dish (you will need to alter the quantities as it makes 2 kgs worth, although it does freeze well)

@Bluesheep8 alas whilst I got so excited when I read the intro unfortunately it's not "my" recipe as it contains tomatoes. It's the tomatoes I take umbridge with as I'm not a fan and they're in so many curry recipes but my beloved recipe didn't have them.

@TheArtfulScreamer1

Oh I'm sorry, I was so convinced it was this recipe that I missed the part about the tomatoes in the OP. Hope you find it soon
