Toasties/Grilled sandwiches

I watched the first episode of Gordon Ramsay's new show a few weeks back - the challenge was beach food and one team went for "good toasties" - it made me realise I'd love a decent toasted sandwich at the beach... Since then I've made this delicious sandwich. I also love an Indian cheese/spicy chutney sandwich..

But am not on a good quality grilled sandwich hunt so tell me yours, please!

There's a delicious toastie in Sabrina Ghayour's Bazaar with halloumi, harissa, honey, tomatoes and quick pickled onions. It's salty, spicy, sweet, and tangy.

I also love coriander chutney in a toastie.

But I just love a simple toastie with cheap white sliced bread, cheddar and butter made in a proper toastie machine.

2 slices good quality bread - I use sourdough.
Cheese - mixture of gruyere and cheddar works for me
Sliced ham
Mustard
Butter the outsides, then fry in a pan til golden on the outside, melty inside. Serve with a pickle.

Sometimes I change it up a bit and add sliced leeks, or a layer of cheese sauce, but I'm usually a cheese and ham or some variation thereof kind of person.

Strong cheese, apple, a sprinkle of sultanas and some dijon mustard. Heaven.

Cheese and baked beans. Heaven.

I also like salsa and cheese.

Cafe near my old office did a hog roast melt. Roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce, cheese, thick white bread liberally buttered on the outside and toasted. Served with a chunk of crackling. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Pizza toasties (at least that's what I tell the kids) bread, a thin spread of tomato puree, little sprinkle of oregano, chopped ham, or salami, grated cheese, toastied. Lovely!

Local pub used to do prawn and cheese. ‘Twas heaven.

Tuna mayo, cheese and red onion

White bread, mature cheddar and pineapple in a sandwich toaster.
Or white bread, cheese and sliced onion, buttered outside and fried.

Butter 2 slices of bread on both sides. Fill with ham, cheese, thinly sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise. Fry in a non stick pan, no oil. Both sides. Until golden brown and you can see the cheese has melted. Delicious. I'm salivating typing this.

Croque Monsieur with béchamel sauce to take it up to the next level.
Mozzarella and tomato, add chopped olives too, deliciously gooey.
Cheese, chopped bacon & truffle honey.

White bread
Tuna or
Cheese or
Cornbeef

Dd had this tonight:
2 birds eye chunky fishfingers
cheese on toast (1 slice white toasty bread with thick grated mature cheddar)
another slice plain toast
barbecue sauce
all done under a red hot grill (apart from the sauce) toasted to perfection by me.

We had pizza toasties tonight.

Roasted peppers, tomatoes, pepperoni, cheddar and mozzarella, and tomato puree on the insides of the bread, plus lots of seasoning.

Instead of butter on the outside I use mayonnaise. Better browning.

I love cheese with mango chutney, or apple or Chinese chilli oil.

Technically a sandwich rather than a toastie but I toast the outside of mine after assembling. Also use goats cheese instead of Gorgonzola because I can't get past my fear of visible mould.

Squeaky Bean pastrami, gherkins, Follow Your Heart garlic mayo, mustard and Violife cheeze. Absolutely delicious.

Or, cheeze and beans.

I love toasties and I don't use mine enough [heads to kitchen to prepare for tomorrow].

Watching MKR Australia I found out they are called Jaffles in Australia (toastie maker is a Jaffle iron) I think they taste better if you call them that.

I now cook eggs in my Jaffle maker

Ham, cheese and sweetcorn (must be creamed sweetcorn, not the kernels)

Sourdough bread, cheddar, sliced apples, kimchi

Brie, cranberry and really crisp prosciutto
Really thinly sliced pear, Gorgonzola and red onion chutney

Love the sound of many of these - for anyone in search of a good melting cheese - the Spanish recipe I linked up thread uses a mixture of gruyere and Mahon cheese which works a treat

Egg and cheese, learned it from MN years ago.
Make an indent in the bread, crack in an egg, top with cheese and second slice of bread.
Delicious.
