Red Velvet Cake

I used to have an amazing red velvet cake recipe - no cocoa as dd hates chocolate cake and it adapted beautifully to gluten free (dd has coeliac disease).

I bookmarked the recipe and have used it for years. Went to it today to buy ingredients for dd's birthday cake and the recipe has disappeared.

Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for red velvet cake. The recipe had white vinegar, buttermilk, vegetable oil and no cocoa.

Here is the original link

Can anyone help? Thank you

Search on the allrecipes site. There are loads of recipes.

Thank you. I have looked but they generally include cocoa or butter instead of oil.

I've managed to find it using the way back machine tool. I'm so happy - have printed it AND saved as a pdf

Glad you found the recipe, but I'm curious as to how it's not just a sponge cake with red food colouring? Is it because the vinegar and buttermilk give it a tangy taste?

The oil also gives it a softer texture - a bit like carrot cake.

The taste/texture is quite different to a Victoria sponge. It doesn't taste particularly tangy but I think the buttermilk also changes the texture.

It's nice to have a cake that my daughter likes that doesn't taste like it's gluten-free. And that I can make as I am not the world's most gifted baker.
