Best Supermarket Prosecco

Hi hopefully I'm on the right topic!
Just wondering if anyone has tried supermarket's own Prosecco and which one is the best. I've had the Tesco one and it isn't the nicest. Any recommendations would be appreciated

The problem with Prosecco is that it is now so popular that to have many bottles of the same big-selling stuff on the shelf of every branch of a major supermarket you need a big producer buying a lot of grapes from a limited supply base. You are going to get compromises in quality. It's the same for any wine from a well-known region: own brand Burgundy, Bordeaux, Barolo is usually disappointing and poor value.

Your best bet from a supermarket is nearly always going to be from one of the smaller ones with a reputation for good wine buying: Co-op and Booths are the two which spring to mind (I can personally vouch for Booths). Aldi and Lidl are both generally good for table wines, not sure about Prosecco. And they're cheap.

But for my money I'd buy cava. It's much closer to Champagne both in the way it's made (traditional method rather than Charmat) and in the taste profile, and at a given price point it's usually simply better quality.

The Asda £5.99 one is really nice, it's got a dark yellow/orange label

Intheinterestsoffairness · 13/04/2022 14:46

Yes, I was going to say buy cava instead. Much better quality for a similar price.

The Aldi organic one is my favourite
I hate cava and it reminds me of Anne from motherland !!

These cans from Lidl. £1.49 . I thought they would be nasty and sweet something like lambrusco, but no, they are gorgeous. Just enough for me, one large or two small glasses.

Cremant rather than prosecco. I get the Waitrose one on offer.

Tesco do one which is produced by a niche champagne house in France which is about £10 and fabulous.

Not Sainsburys taste the difference anyway! Yuckity Yuck!
Asda used to do a nice “extra special” one but they stopped it for some unknown reason Sad
The only one I drink now is M&S

2nd this

Might have to go get one later now

MissyB1 · 13/04/2022 15:10

Is the Aldi organic one dry enough? I can’t stand sweet tasting Prosecco (I’m looking at you Sainsburys). I like crisp and dry.

CornishGem1975 · 13/04/2022 15:12

I like the Lidl one that is £7.99. Can't see it on their website but it comes in a sort of shorter stubbier bottle.

Zampa · 13/04/2022 15:12

Co-op and Aldi Organic get my vote or join The Wine Society.

poorbuthappy · 13/04/2022 15:14

I vote Cremant too.

Cazziebo · 13/04/2022 15:21

I like the Lidl Cremant de Loire. £8.49

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 13/04/2022 15:24

Another vote for Aldi organic. Think it’s about £7 a bottle?

nearlyspringyay · 13/04/2022 15:37

Another vote for Cremant

peacock101 · 14/04/2022 06:37

This is the Aldi organic one, 650 5* reviews

Definitely the Aldi organic Prosecco.
It doesn't have the sweet metallic taste that Prosecco often has and is bone dry .

newlabelwriter · 15/04/2022 06:34

Also a cremant convert. So much nicer

icklekid · 15/04/2022 06:37

Aldi (not tried the organic one!) or morrisons (best one)

Universe1969 · 15/04/2022 07:10

Cremant concert here too. The Prince Alexander from Waitrose. Really good and often on sale

MissMarpleRocks · 16/04/2022 13:16

Cremant over Prosecco any day. So much nicer.

Tagliatellme · 16/04/2022 23:10

People just saying crémant, which one? There are plenty to choose from, it's made with different grapes all over France, as crémant is really just a sparkling wine made outside the champagne area, in a certain way. I like a crémant de Bourgogne. And also a Saumur.

TotalRhubarb · 16/04/2022 23:37

The M&S Prosecco is by far the nicest supermarket one.

AliceMcK · 16/04/2022 23:51

I like the Aldi organic too, I don’t get hangovers with it.

Not supermarket but I like the Graeme Norton one. I like sweet drinks though so might not be for everyone.
