My whole family have Covid - hit me with nice food tips for my food delivery!

So like many people at the moment my whole family have Covid. We are all feeling pretty rotten (me, DH and DD7)

My family aren't that local and my DM has transferred some funds for takeaways and bung in the oven meals as she can't just pop by (very sweet of her) I transferred it back but she just sent it back. So I'm going to take the kindness and have got a food delivery coming tomorrow (Sainsbury's this time).

Any top tips of yummy food to order? Doesn't just have to be oven meals it can be anything. I just need to cheer everyone up a bit and it might to nice to try something new. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried blissfuls biscuits? They're nice.

Oven food is good, yes. But I'd also go for good snack options, depending on your family's preferences. eg variety of cheese and cured meats, fancy rice cakes (DS loves the Itsu chocolate covered ones) or other snack bar type things, hummus and pre-chopped vegetables, pork pies/sausage rolls etc.

Also, buy some of those par-baked loaves. So handy - you can have lovely fresh bread in 10 minutes.

Fresh soups.

Fresh pasta - the kind that can be made in 2 minutes with a sauce you can heat up on in the microwave.

Chocolate. Obviously. Also think drinks - favourite fruit juices, treat fizzy drinks etc.

Hope you all feel better.

Lots of easy snacks, and more than you might think!

Check out all the taste the difference bakery stuff, in store bakery too

It should be a high carb and also high protein diet while you recover

  • so also nuts, cheese, meat if you eat it etc
  • sabra hummus

What about some party food (sausage rolls, jalapeño poppers etc) as you will be needing extra calories

Plus lots of oranges/kiwis/berries for Vit c

Yogurt for immunity

And whatever biscuits /chocolate your family like for extra calories too

I’d put some vit d (spray) & b vitamins in your order too

Definitely nice snacks, maybe some ice cream too?

Saucery · 16/03/2022 16:46

I’ve found I’ve been craving fruit more than usual, so pears, raspberries, crispy apples, maybe?

Having just hit over Covid I would say taste the difference fresh orange juice and lots of bread for toast.

We are covid house right now. I have been giving the DCs cheeseburgers almost every day for lunch. Brioche rolls, and plasdtic cheese slices. We have had turkey burgers (mixed with dried apricots) and regular beef burgers. We also had beef burgers topped with avocado slices and fresh salasa dip. It's so easy and they love it! I also bought treaty things like kitkats and nutella. This morning we also had pancakes with nutella and bananas.

SnowWhiteLobelia · 16/03/2022 16:52

Oh! and also we have tinned fruit and vanilla ice cream. Tinned peaches today.

nearlyspringyay · 16/03/2022 16:57

All I could eat was ready made mash and white toast and butter. Get what you fancy and get a nice delivery when you're better.

Not particularly Covid related, but I asked for Sainsburys recommendations a little while a go and got lots of suggestions: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4032380-Favourite-things-from-Sainsburys

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 16/03/2022 21:52

Cheese topped rolls from the bakery with Heinz tomato soup

Pudding and custard

Big Yorkshire puddings with sausages, maybe with frozen peas and Bisto

Sushi

Creme caramel pots

All the cheese plus Carrs crackers

Par-baked loaves a great idea

Maybe some smoothies
