I’ve never drained a tin of chopped tomatoes!

Baystard · 11/03/2022 21:26

No, in fact I rinse them with a little water and add that to whatever I'm cooking to make sure I don't lose any.

Sexnotgender · 11/03/2022 21:27

Are you meant to? Why?

DockOTheBay · 11/03/2022 21:28

I never have

notacooldad · 11/03/2022 21:29

I don't.
If I'm doing a stew or casserole or soups i use the whole tin.

Justkeeppedaling · 11/03/2022 21:29

It depends if you like the juice or not, but it seems a shame to waste it.

watcherintherye · 11/03/2022 21:29

I rinse them with a little water

How do you rinse chopped tomatoes? Confused

SilverHairedCat · 11/03/2022 21:30

Nope.

AtlasPine · 11/03/2022 21:30

That would be madness. The juice is half of it.

JoanThursday · 11/03/2022 21:30

Never done that. I always rinse out the can with a little water to make sure I get every last scrap of tomato juice!

Rinse the tin, then you get all the extra bits out.

I think that poster means that they rinse out the can and pour the rinsing water into the cooking pot before binging/recycling the can.
SookieHouseboat · 11/03/2022 21:31

Of course not.

I think she means rinseout the can to get the last bits into your pan. I def do that
BusinessMindThoughts · 11/03/2022 21:39

I do drain them in one recipe - the juice would flood the rest of it. But in stews, soups etc I don't and often add a can of water too.

As others have said, presumably rinses the tin not the tomatoes. I do the same, albeit with red wine Wine Grin
BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 11/03/2022 21:41

Binning not binging the can! I’ve just spotted my typo

Summerfun54321 · 11/03/2022 22:02

I saw in a cook book once to drain them a little. It was for making a thick pizza ragu. I personally never bothered.

Cas112 · 12/03/2022 11:05

No

I meant that I rinse out the tin!
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/03/2022 15:49

The only time I've ever drained them was to make a salsa when my fresh tomatoes weren't ripe enough.

Re rinsing the tin: I usually put a teaspoon of vegetable bouillon powder, tomato purée and any herbs I'm using in the tin, add a little boiling water & swirl, add to pan, then rinse with a little more boiling water (I learnt the hard way not to fill the tin with boiling water and then pick it up - obviously the tin gets very hot! )
