Garlic bread… how much garlic is too much garlic?

I’m just making a garlic baguette using one of those half baked things. I’ve chucked in two big fat cloves and one skinny one (because that was the end of the bulb and I didn’t see the point of saving it).

Where am I on the scale of ‘anything less than two full bulbs is pointless’ and ‘I waft the garlic near the butter and that’s enough for me’?!

For a 2 pack of those part baked baguettes I use one block of frozen garlic melted into just under a quarter block of salted butter.

TheSpottedZebra · 07/03/2022 19:55

How big is the baguette?

Anyway, not yet enough garlic. You're making GARLIC bread, not slightly something-y bread.

If you’re going to have smelly garlic breath anyway, you may as well make it worthwhile I say.
Chuck as much as possible in whenever you use garlic.

It’s two little six inch ones. Not huge by any means. It smells good but I fear you might be right about the ‘keep adding garlic til I say stop…’

I don’t know how much garlic is in a frozen block - is it a big chunk? And do you melt the butter to liquid?

There’s nobody to smell the breath. I should have gone bigger on the garlic. I think I might be disappointed 🤷‍♀️

This was one we bought in France and it's fairly safe to say that this was a tad too much garlic. I think there's at least 3 cloves per slice.

There is no such thing as too much garlic

MaizeAmaze · 07/03/2022 20:34

We get part baued stuff as either packs of 2 12" mini baguettes, or 6 6" rolls.

2 6 inch rolls, you are probably ok on the garlic, but more would be fine.
2 of the actual mini baguettes, you are light on garlic.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 07/03/2022 20:44

Woah that garlic bread is the business!!!!
I'd be kicked out of my home if I ate that. My bed at least, but my goodness it looks delicious.

You can't have too much garlic. Just close your eyes and put it on.

Marchingredsoldiers · 07/03/2022 20:51

There is such a thing as too much garlic.

I had discovered making garlic butter when I was 17. I took it round to my then-boyfriend's house. I had used so much i needed to go home early because of a stonking garlic-induced headache, leaving a stinking house and bemused parents. Apparently they were hugely relieved when me and my garlic left!

PlanetNormal · 07/03/2022 20:53

“Too much garlic” ???

Heresy! No such thing.

peboh · 07/03/2022 20:56

I usually use a full bulb when making garlic bread (unless I don't have a full bulb for whatever reason)

Wherever garlic is involved I like to absolutely guarantee there will be no vampires in the house that night 😁. So all the garlic's go in garlic bread! It's good for you anyway!

CPL593H · 07/03/2022 21:16

There is no such thing as too much garlic, there are just weak people Grin

It was two of the six inch rolls. Sufficient garlic in the end… could have taken more. The neighbour who popped round didn’t visibly recoil from the stench, so I think I need to up the garlic quotient next time. And next time I have this handy thread to refer to!

You can have as much garlic as you want if you put in some chopped fresh parsley which gets rid of morning garlic breath.

Totally revolutionised the way I made garlic bread.

Ooh! I did put parsley in! Will continue to find people to breathe on tomorrow…

I made it with three cloves recently and it definitely wasn't enough! :) But I was trying to tone it down after the time before when it was soooo delicious, but soooooooo garlicy.

My hot tip is to squeeze in some lemon juice. Smooths out the flavour somehow.
