I keep finding myself using the same ones over and over. So what is your favourite herb or spice (or herb/spice blend) and why do you like it? Inspire me 🙂

Chipotle chilli flakes or paste, smoked paprika. I love that depth of flavour.

Pul biber/Aleppo pepper flakes. Fruity and earthy, without the intense heat.

Chinese crispy chilli oil.

Dried mint for salad dressings.

Nigella seeds.

Cardamom.

I'm not much of a cook at all, but I love smoked paprika.
It's nice on potato wedges, and chicken.

Have you tried Simply cook? They send you the recipes plus spice/stock/herb kit and you buy the main ingredient

It's really good way of trying new meals and then you can create it yourself from scratch

Garlic of course but I really struggle without oregano, I love it. Cumin probably after that.

Smoked paprika here too. Either the sweet or the spicy.

Smoked paprika mixed with fried oregano is basically Nando’s flavour.

I also really like jerk seasoning. I have about eight different blends in various cupboards.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 09/03/2022 08:05

🙄 dried oregano, not fried

Nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon. Mostly in sweet dishes (porridge!) but some savoury things too,

We've got a cupboard stuffed to the rafters with herbs and spices and I couldn't possibly pick one. The ones that we use the most are probably ground cumin, oregano and don't forget to put freshly ground black pepper in everything!
We use a lot of fresh herbs, parsley and coriander are probably the most popular, but then in summer things like dill and mint come out more too. I live fresh rosemary in good quality extra virgin olive oil with fresh bread dipped in.
Braai salt is good on beef.
