To include my son's friend, what Halal options (including no wheat/soya/pulses/beans/dairy) can I provide for lunches when he is over?!
So far have cooked halal chicken with rice / curry sauce.
But can't do this every time!!

What quick easy options are out there?!

Can you ask him, or if he's very young ask his parents ?
Or ask your DC what does he get given when he's there ?

Gf fish fingers chips

You can buy halal salami, the Spanish one in sainsburys is normally gluten free and put it in a sandwich.

Halal chicken drumsticks with vegan coleslaw etc

Ofcourseinamechangedforthisyou · 01/03/2022 21:14

Babagaboush with gluten free oatcakes
Roasted aubergines with tofu and wee tomatoes
Lamb curry - from the halal section in the supermarket
Rice salad with peppers, peanuts, capers and vinaigrette

Home made chicken & vegetable soup

Chicken casserole

Chicken salad

You can see a pattern here I’m sure.

Pizza (dairy free available from large supermarkets)
Fish pie
Home made chicken nuggets/fish fingers
Risotto

MaizeAmaze · 01/03/2022 21:26

Sweet potato curry with rice
Jacket potato with coleslaw made with vegan mayo (check gluten content)
Veg soups (minestrone with gluten free pasta, veg, tomato, chicken)
Gluten free wraps (corn usually) with chicken or roasted veg and avocado
Lamb tacos (if may contain gluten is ok)

Spanish orange cake
Chocolate olive oil cake (if seriously halal check vanilla extract for alcohol - you need flavouring or the dr otkers in syrup)

Peachtoiletpaper · 01/03/2022 21:30

Fish pie, shepherd's pie, mushroom risotto, a simple version of paella or kedgeree, stir fry, a substantial vegetable soup like roasted pumpkin or squash?

Variations on the chicken with sauce and rice should be fine though- how often will he be coming?

Peachtoiletpaper · 01/03/2022 21:32

Omelette or frittata (not sure if dairy includes eggs)

AtleastitsnotMonday · 01/03/2022 22:55

Jacket potato with tuna and Helmans mayonnaise and sweetcorn should be ok.

Please check with parents as loads of the dishes listed above are halal but are not free from gluten, dairy and Soya.

Many thanks for the replies. (I have spotted the ones that are not strictly within the halal, allergy free remit!)
I've now got some great (quick) ideas though, which helps.

Those spicy bright red halal beef sausages are quite nice. You could grill those with hot dog buns and salad. Most halal butchers will sell them.

But I agree that chicken is so versatile. There are loads of ways you can do it - with mediterranean veg and fresh herbs, in a soup with noodles, carrots and sweetcorn, marinaded and baked in tikka spices etc.

DepthOfTheAbyss · 02/03/2022 09:21

Looks like potato and rice dishes.
Or pasta if you buy wheat free. Brown rice pasta is the best I’ve found.
Pasta dishes with tuna or veg sauce
Baked potatoes with veg or tuna
Potato wedges or oven chips with halal chicken drumsticks or gluten free fish fingers.
Stir fry rice with egg or chicken

Halal lamb Sad

SuperbOwls · 02/03/2022 09:51

I had a similar dietary list for a playdate not long ago. I ended up making a gluten and dairy free margarita pizza with carrot/cucumber and houmous on the side. Seemed to go down well

Otherpeoplesteens · 02/03/2022 10:04

I can't really help with meal suggestions especially if no pulses or beans, but I do know that all New Zealand lamb is halal, as is all fish and shellfish.

sashh · 02/03/2022 10:14

Fish is always a good option, not shellfish, fish with gills.

So gluten free fishfingers are a good option depending on the age of your guest.

If you keep a packet of passatta in you can shove some fish in passatta and add any herbs/spices you like.

Salmon parcels.

Chips, never forget chips.

Baked potatoes.

Omelets / eggs.

Veg tray bake.

Salad / veg on the side.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 02/03/2022 10:38

Egg and chips. With broccoli or sweet corn if sweet corn ok?
