To go on a cheese burger? Pregnancy craving proper American yellow cheese and crispy onions on a burger.

Dh refusing to buy crispy onions on his way home from work as we have loads of onions in house - has anyone managed to home make them good enough?

If so recipe please!

For a start, I'd suggest getting DH to make them !

I've never tried as I don't have a deep fat fryer, but a large jar from an Oriental supermarket near me is c.£1

Never tried but they seem simple to do when I've seen them made on the telly. No excuse we have a deep fat fryer but I hate using it as it stinks the house out.

Slice the onions really thinly. Soak the slices in milk for st least 30 minutes.

Put a few spoons of flour in a bowl and add salt, pepper, spices to taste ( I like celery salt and cumin)

Heat vegetable oil in a pan. When hot put a handful of drained onions into the flour, turn over and drop into the hot oil. Keep them moving and remove once the colour has changed and they are crisp. Take them out with a slotted spoon onto kitchen paper and let the oil reheat before you put in the next handful. Keep going until you run out of onion. Warning: these are so moreish that if you aren't careful you will find that you are eating them more quickly than you are cooking them!

People have, I have, it can be done. But WHY?! They're laborious and time consuming and stink up the house to make! Your dh is being dick

Toss them in cornflour before chucking in the fryer, we do this in work (Pub kitchen)

@ODFOx - that sounds delicious!

@Yebbie - I wish I could help, but the only time I tried to make crispy onions, they were sad and flabby.
