Non spicy vegan crowd-pleaser recipes?

Recipeideasplease · 12/02/2022 20:32

Need to make a crowd-pleaser for a mix of diets, but some people are vegan - so it has to be vegan - and also someone who doesn’t like spicy food.

I’m a vegetarian and normally I’d make veggie chilli for a crowd - but one person can’t tolerate any spice.

I then thought: lasagne, but it also needs to be vegan and I’m not personally into vegan cheese!

I love cooking and am up for any challenge!

Ideas?

Sausage and mash
Sausage sandwich buffet - mix of Sausages and choice of breads. Not joking about this btw. I did it once and it was lovely!

This is wonderful and really easy. I like it with cavalier nero (but anything green will do), mash made with naturli vegan butter, and good bread.

This is also really good, but doesn't go very far so you'll need to make multiple trays:

I made something like this when I was doing veganuary. Made for non veggie/vegan friend and she liked it. Loads of ideas on the happy pear website.

I also love this if you fancy a roast style dinner. Also lovely made into a Wellington style thing wrapped in pastry with chutney. You can make the pastry wrapping fancy for a dinner party.

The vegan lasagne recipes that I’ve tried don’t use vegan cheese, just dairy free milk and nutritional yeast. I normally do this one but there’s a popular one on Tesco’s recipe site which turns out just as nice.
Lentil ragu and tagliatelle, served with garlic bread (most are vegan)
Shepherd’s pie
Tuscan bean stew with ciabatta

I make a vegan lasagna without any cheese. Just make the bechamel with oil, flour, and milk of your choice (I use soya or oat). Then add nutritional yeast for that cheesy flavour - the recipe I follow serves 6 and I add 3tbsps of it.

This is a great idea!

Thank you all - I am going to try for a vegan lasagne! Yum.

Just make sure you use unsweetened milk, there is a big difference and sweet bechamel is not good (I've made that mistake before!)

I am vegan and can’t abide even a tiny bit of spice. My go to dishes tend to be Italian so I think lasagne with nutritional yeast is a perfect option. Maybe serve with some garlic bread and salad

This pumpkin lasagne style casserole is very forgiving. You will need to make a substitution or two to make it Vegan.
