Is it a really bad idea to defrost meat in the oven?

..lamb chops at a very very low temperature? I'm sort of thinking it would be similar to microwave defrosting (but I hate microwave defrosting so I don't do it)

What do you reckon?

Dumb or not?

then cook them on high heat straight away ?

bonkerz · 30/12/2007 13:45

we cook lamb chops from frozen. never been poorly. (now im gonna get told im irresponsible!!) The only meat we defrost before cooking are joints or chicken.

winestein · 30/12/2007 13:47

Yes, then cook them on high immediately. That's interesting bonkerz... Are they always cooked all the way through?

Do you get salmonella on lamb Janitor? I was kinda hoping it was a chicken and fish thang??

My lamb and pork chops are always cooked right through. I turn them half way through cooking.

winestein · 30/12/2007 13:48

the reason I am asking btw is that I really really want this for my dinner....

Do you oven them bonkerz, or pan fry them?

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooodont do that! Put them in a bowl of cold water change water frequently they will thaw in about an hour tops.

winestein · 30/12/2007 14:22

I've just put them in the oven. Will maybe take them out and defrost in water then, as that doesn't sound like a bad idea. Ta! Don;t know why I didn;t think of that - I always defrost chicken that way if I need it in a hurry

You can buy this metal tray thing to defrost meat on. It looks a little bit like a grill. My MIL has one & the meat defrosts in next to no time Don't know the name of it though.

winestein · 30/12/2007 14:28

What? The meat just sits on it? No oven? No microwave?
