Gluten free and vegan afternoon tea

Any suggestions of what to make/bake ?

I'm aiming to do some savoury stuff as well as cakes but not necessarily sandwiches.

Both the gluten free and vegans can handle cross contamination so it's just the actual ingredients ifyswim.

I’m assuming that there’s nobody who’s both vegan and GF? So you could make things which contain gluten but are vegan, and things which are GF but not vegan? I think that would be a lot easier!

*Oatcakes (you can buy gluten free ones or make your own) topped with: vegan mushroom pate (made with mushrooms/garlic/parsley/vegan cream cheese), or vegan cream cheese and a smidge of vegan smoked salmon, or vegan cheese and a decent chutney
*Gluten free bread made into little bruschettas
*Mini farinatas made in a muffin tin with finely chopped spinach and brocolli added to the batter
*The old faithful of veg sticks and houmous but served nicely
*Black bean brownies
*Flapjacks made with gluten free oats

I'd do the whole thing vegan and gluten free btw, it's so much nicer as someone with dietary needs to just be able to eat everything instead of having 3 options each and wishing you had what everyone else had!! And it's easier to cater tbh, no faffing about making a load of separate things.

Oh and these are a must!!

gluten free vegan almond cookies

Thanks for these ideas! There’s no one gluten free and vegan but they are gf and dairy free so I figured I’d just use egg replaced anyway and make it so everyone can eat everything

Beachbabe1 · 25/01/2022 07:50

I am both gluten and dairy free! Its a real pain in the butt! The effort you are going to is lovely! What lucky friends they are!

teaandcakerules · 25/01/2022 08:09

Have a look at the recipes on this blog:

glutenfreecuppatea.co.uk/

They're all GF and most have adaptations to make them DF/vegan, they're easy and I've not had a single recipe of Becky's not work well!

Firm tofu mashed with vegan mayo and red onion and eggy salt on gf/vegan breas.

Vegan violife cheese and tomotoe or onion

Violife cram cheese and cucumcer

Please check your gf person is able to eat gf oats! Not all coeliacs are and my poor DH is often having to discreetly dispose of oaty things well meaning people have given him.

ninjafoodienovice · 25/01/2022 17:19

Fortunately it's myself and DH who are the gf people and we can tolerate gf oats fine. Vegan flapjacks are definitely going on the list
