Friendship cake - German or Dutch

Many many years ago I was given a starter for a friendship cake. And you were supposed to add to the starter, divide it giving some to friends and making the rest into a cake ( I think it had apples but not sure)

I have never since heard of this, has anyone else ?

And is there any chance anyone knows the recipe ?

I still remember the flavour of this cake from my childhood. It's bloody lovely?!!

I remember making this. It must have been in the early 1990s.
